Question for all you guys running Drag Radials
What is the difference between these two BFG DR's:
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....FA+Drag+Radial
and
http://www.tirerack.com/tires/tires....+Drag+Radial+2
Which one do you guys run? Which one is better for drag racing?
Thanks in advance?

I think just about everyone uses these
Just shooting from the hip, but it seems like there is more rubber meeting the road on these. Seems like a lot more grooves in the other. I forgot what Luke told me about the others....he would know.
Maybe they are the same grip wise.....I just know most guys roll with the above. Wait til you feel how mushy they are....pretty cool.

I just found these online - http://www.speedunlimited.com/cgi-bi...l?p_catid=3760
Here's a picture of the MT's
I guess I'll go with these. They have a huge amount of rubber contact surface.

I have no idea which is better, I haven't bought a set yet. I am planning on buying the newer tread style. The tire rack website is where I read that so you might find some other helpful info there.
The guys that have actually used them can chime in on which style they have used. I would imagine that the difference in 1/4 mile times won't be much between the two.
If you were BF Goodrich would you come out with a new drag radial inferior to the existing one???
the picture you posted is the older style.

... just because it's newer, it doesn't mean it's better. It can quite possibly mean that it's safer for everyday driving. Hence the reason for the mutli-direction tread pattern.

Thanks for pointing that out, I had it backwards.
I will still order the newer ones, but you are right, they could have changed them for the worse.
Well if we do an E55 Drag day and some one has the older tires that are new enough and wants to swap out for the newer style maybe we can do some runs and find out for sure.
All I know is I'm only buying one set. Give a call to the tire rack people they are usually pretty knowledgeable.

This is the older design...
... this is the newer design ...
I have used both and think they both work very well. The newer ones seem to drive a little better, but that may have just been the size difference (16s vs 18s). The new MT drag radials are getting rave reviews, too.

Ok... well then I stand corrected. I called BFG and the rep misinformed me (nice hire BFG) LOL. At any rate, I've already ordered the Mickey Thompsons. Thanks for everyones input. The MT's look like a slick. Can't wait to get them and track it. I have plans to hit the track on 1/13. I'll keep everyone posted... looking for 11.7x

That MT is about the closest thing to a true "drag slick" that you can get. I'm getting wheels especially made to put on the SL, just for that tire. I've seen guys run low 8's with those tires, with 60' times of 1.3-1.5. The MT Drag radial hooks so well that it has been banned from the NHRA drag radial class. You won't be sorry!

The "old" BFG Drag Radials are still the "spec" tire in some drag racing classes. They still hold a few records for DRs too, but from what Iv'e heard about the MTs, that won't last long. The MTs are supposed to be the cat's ***.

Wayne,
Last time out and first time on DR's in my life in miserable conditions, I was running 1.6's all day with my best being 1.64. Since I went with a 17" rim, I had the old style and they rocked!
I would love to be able to get into the 1.5 range in the Spring under better conditions
I could not imagine that MT's would be any better.

Have they heard of VHT in your area?
Seriously, your 60' times with BFGs are barely better than what we've seen with stock Contis here. As Spero posted above, he was running quicker short times with the old-school BFGs his first time out.

You were leaving ET on the table due to what seems like poor track prep where you run. So you could be making a big deal about .7s, instead of .95s
