How Do You View Rebadged MB's?
On the way to work this morning I saw a white E class with black Brabus wheels and a silver lip. As I got closer I noticed the V8 Kompressor badges on the fenders and started wondering why the rear tires were so thin. Sure they were aftermarket, but nobody pops on skinnier tires. The trunk said E55 and AMG, and that's when I noticed the single tipped exhaust on each side. Front brakes were also non-AMG. It was either an E350 or E500 sport package car, rebadged as an E55.
What do people understand when they do that sort of stuff? In my eyes, instead of respecting it for what it is, I classify it as a ricer Accord. Just seems like the same mentality of the kids who slap Type R stickers all over their cars.
Isn't it embarrassing to begin with? Say he pulls in to the MB dealer for service and the rep calls it an E55, he then has to correct the rep and practically tell him "I'm a moron."

Oh and another thing, today in a parking lot I saw an older C-class with a CLK240 badge. Now that has to be more than a simple mistake.
It's amazing the things I've seen around here. It's very common too since every other car in my area is a Mercedes.

That is my analogy. Why go around looking big and strong when in reality you cannot back it up?????
Look at the cls forum. There is a red CLS500 with exactly that.

if the car has a BRABUS, RENNTECH or KLEEMANN that its OK.
if they remove the badge or add other alpha numeric badges that don't belong to the car... than its really GHETTO!
unless you are driving a reall E55 and you badge it E350 or you have an SL65 and you badge it SL500... than that would be pretty funny.

Personally, I would never do it. I prefer to debadge my car if anything. Even though I have a non-AMG, I'm still proud of what I could afford and wouldn't sport something I don't have.

Personally, its okay to put E55 badges on a E500 if they guy swapped in a blown AMG 5.4L motor. :p
Other than that, you're looking at fine examples of rice. Yes, someone could put Ferrari badges on an old Lamborghini and it would still be rice.
No, it is something I would never think about doing. As a matter of fact, if I were to swap in a new engine or heavily modify my current motor, I would leave the S430 badge on. Besides, my car likes its identity.
It's like someone calling themselves Donald Trump. What ever happened to individual personalities and identities? Everyone or everything is trying to be something else nowadays. :o

I drive a E55T, SLK55 and 65 Mustang Conv.
Man don't get me started on this....I think people who put AMG badges on non AMG cars are idiots. However when I posed the same question in the SLK55 board about 9 months ago I got about 75 posts of people mostly flaming me saying I was an elitest...people can do whatever they want to their cars, etc. Wolf posting as Lady Wolf

I live just west of Ventura and Balboa. My one office is in Tarzana on Ventura, just west of Reseda. The other is in Canoga Park.

The only time I think rebadging is justified is when you're buying your wife a S430 and you rebadge it to an S600 to make her think you da man! :v

'03 G500, '13 G63, '17 GLS63,
I always wonder what compels people to do it. However, I admit I am somewhat guilty of it myself. Back in college I had a CLEAN 1990 300CE (euro lights, AMG Monoblocks, H&R lowering springs) that I rebadged as E320. I figured it was ok since I was just updating the name as the E320 coupe was essentially the same car and had the same hp, though less torque. If anyone asked me what kind of car it was, I'd say 300CE. Nobody EVER asked why it said E320, nor did anyone even notice. Would I do it again? Probably not. And mind you, this is not as big an offense as if I had badged it, say, AMG E500 or something like that.
As for an E320 re-badged as E55 and attempting to pass if off as an E55, that is plain stupid, IMO. However, its not my car, and I can take in the satisfaction of knowing I have the real E55 and dont need to pretend anything to make myself feel better. If I had an E320, I'd feel the same way.

Speaking of misleading badging, has MBZ started adding the AMG badge to cars with the AMG sport package? I've seen two cars in the last 6 months that appeared to be new or near new, one badged as an S500 "AMG" and the other a CLK 500 "AMG." Clearly the cars didn't have the AMG engines, brakes, etc., but they did have the AMG badge on the right side of the trunk lid, and appeared to have the AMG sport package with larger wheels & tires, etc. I know the AMG sport/appearance package has been around as an option for a while, but I've never seen the package accompanied by the actual AMG badge. So were they factory, or did someone add them?
