Our day at the dragstrip

Our local car club had a get together at the dragstrip last Sunday. We had the following cars show up:

Car... Owner
Porsche 996 Twin Turbo GT700, 750hp / 750 lb/ft... Joe
Mercedes SL600 RENNTech, 675hp / 910 lb/ft... Arnold
Mercedes SL65 RENNTech, 725hp / 970 lb/ft... Lou
Toyota Supra Turbo, 900hp / 900 lb/ft... Guilly
Dodge Viper Twin Turbo, 1200+hp / 1200+ lb/ft... Vince
Chevy Corvette Twin Turbo, 700hp / 700 lb/ft... Glen
Subaru WRX/STI Dynocomp , 630hp / 600lb/ft... Richard
Mercedes SL55 AMG, 500hp / 600lb/ft... Dave
BMW 540i Dinan, 400hp / 400lb/ft... John
Mercedes E55 AMG, 480hp / 500lb/ft... John

We were also joined by Ryan Woon of Wide Open Throttle MotorSports who broke the records of ".world's fastest and quickest, street, 6spd Toyota Supra " with a mind boggling 8.62 ET and a 171mph trapspeed!

We were also joined by the crew from Evolution Motorsports . They brought their supercharged Porsche 997, as well as, their monster GT800 car. We had a chance to watch the GT800 break the record and become "the world's fastest 996 Turbo" with a blistering 10.37@139mph.

We plan on getting together again very soon. I'll keep you all posted. If you are in the Phoenix area and are interested in participating, let me know.

I have included some pictures of the day, as well as, a video of some of the runs.

CLICK HERE TO WATCH THE VIDEO!!!! The video is best when viewed at 320 size.

Excellent vids! Haven't kept track of the stats (Treynor, Schiznick, et al), but a 1.5 60-ft for an SL65 with or without mods is the lowest I've seen. What kind of rubber was Lou running? Your 1.7 wasn't shabby at all, either - great run!

The 12.2/116 was impressive on the bone stock E55 - stock rubber, too? Others note: Speedworld is at 3100' elevation.

We're both running Mickey Thompson ET/Street radials out back, with stock shoes and socks up front. We had custom 17" wheels made especially for these tires.

E55 was on stock PS2's.

I took it to thestrip a couple of weeks ago, it couldn't get any traction, it ran 12.7@125 with the wheels spinning violently in every gear. That car was made for the road course not the drags. Here it is in action on the road course: My dad was shooting the video, sorry for the poor cinematography.

Regarding your wheels, CCW's or ????

I WISH the PS2's were stock on the E55 -LOL - but they're close enough to stock not to qualify as a completely unfair advantage over the stock Conti's at the strip.

Looks like my engine and I'm guessing Heffner did it, but you can't really tell because most of the goodies are underneath, and the few tuners that are doing them use pretty much the same design and parts. As reflected in the trap speed, that's an easy low 9 second car if he can figure out how to launch it.

Well, Supraforums is down, but there was a post mentioning a bunch of exotics were there the day WOTM was laying down 8s.
