2007 E55 or E63

Hey guys,

I have a dilemma, I am interested in buying one of these bad boys, but I don't know if I should buy one now? The 2006 E55, because I heard a rumor that the 2007 will be a E 63 AMG, if this is true, I would rather wait. But if nothing is going to change then, I'll just get one now. Does anyone know if anything is confirmed for a 2007 AMG 63?

I don't think anyone knows for certain on either car. I personally wanted the suupercharged engine so I opted to get mine early and so far am not disappointed.

..........because of the introduction of the ML63, it is pretty clear that there will be an E63. MB will not introduce the "63" engine just for the ML63 alone. Whether or not you should get the E63 is another question. Not only will it be the first model year for the E63, it appears that the E55 will be faster because of its higher torque numbers.

I would also rather have the 55k motor... easy to make quicker with a little more boost..... the 63 motor will be NA, and cost big $$ increase power...

I am convinced at this point that the only choice from June or July on will be the E63 with the new 6.3L NA motor and the 7-speed gearbox - not a bad combination necessarily(!).
I would recommend you grab the 2006 E55 now, with the 5.5L SC motor. In a few/several years you can switch it out to the (at least by then fairly) updated E63....

I am sure Kleemann will find a way to supercharge the new 6.3L engine. A supercharged 6.3 will surely make more horsepower and torque than the 5.4L. Of course, this would not be the least expensive option.

That is incorrect. Don't just assume because one engine is larger, it will make more power. The 6.3L in N/A form will be a high-compression tweaked V8 that will not like boost given it's high stress levels it already sees. Kleemann may do a low boost s/c for it, but it will not make a lot more power nor will it be cheap. The 55K motor, on the other hand, is built for boost and has a drivetrain to support it. I am skeptical about how much torque that 7-speed can take over stock.

Essentially, you are kidding yourself if you think the 6.3L will see power levels we will see with the 55K motors. The only motor right now that is better than the 55K is the V12 TT in both AMG and non-AMG versions.

V12TT > 55K > 6.3 - at least for the power junkie.

marcus nailed it! forced induction motors from the factory are the easiest and cheapest engines to modify (and have more torque that N/A). the buick gn, TTA, Supras, cyclones, ect were fast cars...and still are today.

just my $.02 worth.

I wouldnt discount a supercahrged 6.3. You guys need to take a look at the Chrysler SRT-8 models if you're concerned about supercharging. The 6.1L Hemi is a higher compression engine and they are getting 500rwhp out of it when supercharging. That said, I don't plan to get rid of my E55 for E63 for a long time to come.

a few...
i have heard that they are getting 500rwhp from the srt8s but what can this new 7 speed take as far as torque and horsepower, given if the engine can take it. either way, we are going to have a fast E to come out because they wont jip us and give us that slow of a car... :v

AMGPOWA,

Marcus Frost's post is exactly my reason for why I opted for an '05... one can modify it a lot easier than a N/A one. The first question you will need to answer for yourself is if you are planning to mod the car or not.

Well, are the M5 guys better informed than the E55 crowd???

Bobcanada - sorry - thought the 63 would only be in new body - think E63 will be at Geneva show in March. Think E63 will get sports option pack and tahts why they are waiting ... what I dont get is why the SL63 does not come out first....being a flagship?

New E is only 2009 though - with facelift this year.

They won't blow the E63 motor - its not suited to it - also there may not be any space unless you go small turbo.

If they are indeed going to offer an 030 package on the E63 that really does change the equation, doesn't it?

something fast
The 63 engine going into the S and CL class will be turbo charged this is coming from Rob Allen's boss. My friend who is a sales manager was in a corporate meeting (sitting next to the main guy forgot his title but he is rob allens boss)on the new s-class with all the north american corporate leaders and they said the s class will get the 63 engine but it will be turbo charged and it wont be out for another year.
