1 week old - Impressions.

Well car is one week old and I have done around 275 miles or so.

Couple of points I have picked up :-

1 Second gear is just crazy ... you get pegged back instantly.
2 Getting up to 100 is so quick its really funny - and scary - you gotta watch yourself in this beast.
3 Manual shift is not that great when shifting up off the line, but great keepinging it from shifting down when you just want to push it from a slow roll in 3rd for example.
4 Navigation does not allow street number input - WTF?, and sometimes gets completely messed up.
5 Linguatronic is cool - but I need to learn (and remember) all the commands!
6 Keyless Go is fabulous.
7 Boot closer is great.
8 TV is cool - even pick up some freeview digital channels.
9 In manual mode car does not upshift even if u hit redline... pulled away and forgot I was in manual - hit redline and car just "stopped" against limiter. Ouch! I was really peeved given car had only done 200miles.
10 Traction traction traction ... does not happen with certainty until 3rd gear.
11 Thermotronic is great. First climate control system that works regardless of sunlight.
12 Seats are really comfy & supportive - although adjustments are a little quirky - takes some time to get it just right - still fine tuning this though.
13 Parktronic is good - but BMW sound only method is easier to use.
14 Steering Wheel feel is a little vague - definately more than vague than my 330 BMW - mbe too much assistance
15 Steering wheel is too thin and hard.
16 Dont notice any marked diff between Sports I , II or normal mode.
17 Anyone notice diff between C & S shifting mode ?
18 High speed stability is good
19 Looks fabulous is parking lot !!!

Dont mean to sound anti the car or anything but just honest impressions. I love my new beast!

Rgds Steve.

Hey steve...give it time. You aren't tuned in yet. You will notice differences w/ each airmatic setting and the shifter (c/s). The shifter especially has MAJOR differences. First off, you start out in second. There are lots more goodies on that. Lets see some pics. No problem being honest with your beast. You are not going to like the steering feedback on anything short of an "older" Porsche, coming off of a 3 series Bimmer. Road Feel has to be the bimmers #1 strength.

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
Wait a year or 2 and you love it even more. I told my wife that I had a delimma about what car I might replace it with. The only one I can come up with is another AMG.

You better take it in quick and have the steering wheel moved to the correct side. Congrats and enjoy.

I heard that they learned to drive on the WRONG side of the road because in the 'olden days' of horse and buggy the right hand was the whip hand and it was easier to smack someone you weren't friendly with who was coming the other way by driving on the WRONG side of the road (!) Think that's true?

Just kidding, boys....

Unless the Euro Command is different it is one of the left side softkeys listed as Hse number or something like that it won't give the exact address but a range odd or even that is close enough.

I think the UK NAV is setup a little different - suppose I just have to get the manual out and read up on it ... it seems post code dependant ... so street name and post code gives you quite a narrow location to point to - I think - I will check my NAV and see if I have the Hse Number button - that would be really neat.

On the M5 option ... mmm have to say I have been a bit of a BMW fan and have really only had bimmers in the past. Had a C280 for about a month and could not get 200 miles out of a tank of gas.

But why did I not go M5?

1 The wait... but you can pretty much get them now for list here, as you see it.
2 Got 10% off list on the E55
3 That torque of the E .... yummy
4 The fuel range of the M5 is just unacceptable. 70L tank ?
5 Intant go on tap in the E.
6 More comfortable ride in E.
7 When / how often will I do > 120mph where the M5 is better ?
8 When / How often will I get the E off the line quickly ?? :v
9 How often will I go to the race track ?
10 How often will I go to the drag strip ? :v
11 The E is more easily mod-able.
12 E boot is bigger ! - hey I got a kid !
13 Launch control is rubbish ...
14 ... but 7 speed box is nice.
15 New BMW interior has not convinced me - exterior is growing on me.
16 E interior is more my style - mbe I am getting old ?!
17 The sound of the Kompressor motor when its on song ...

Bottom line guys the E is a bloody monster and I just LOVE that blower motor ... I cannot see myself going for the E63 when it comes out unless it has a blower.

Options I went for ..
Glass sun roof
Parktronic
TPMS
telephone prep
Keyless Go
Rear blind
side rear blinds
front and rear tv
Command
Linguatronic
Side rear air bags
fold down rear seats
auto trunk closer

EXACTLY !!! EXACTLY !!! EXACTLY

when I saw what BMW M% E60 drivers were having to do in order to have fun, I said screw it. I am sure the AMG63 motors will be absolutely awesome, but if its naturally asprated it will be similar to the M5, and I dont want to wind up the motor into jail territory in order to have fun - 95% of my driving is UNDER 100MPH, and thats where I want to have 95% of my FUN

No point in buying a car and having to risk going to jail to enjoy it. For that reason I made sure that I purchased one of the last CLS55 motors

you have a nice beast...

needs a little lowering, but other than that it is perfect.

Chip and Pulley will equalize the 7spd tranny of the M5.

enjoy !
