Renntech CF airbox

Anyone here using one. They claim 15hps, but I thought I saw a thread that someone claim they were getting like 40hps, I believe it was SL65 owner. I know it expensive mod. but 20-40hps is pretty good in my book. What do you guy think about it?

Its hard to believe some of these power gains i read about. Not too long ago i read where some one said that they had somewhere in the vicinity of 20-25 hp fo just filters.
What i think would be a great combination ,is the air-box mod along with the kleenmann t/b.Oh...and the mega hp filters.

there must be software included that you would need if you were to gain that much...

I dont know about that gain on a E55 but when we put one on our SL65 it gained about 40hp and 60-70lbs to the wheels. They are alot less constricted and the airflow is greatly increased. But every car is different even if you were doing it to the same car

5-10HP would SHOCK me... 20-40HP raises RED FLAGS.

Sounds like a outragious claim to me.

40 extra ponies with a redesigned air box?

Just Mercedes/AMG really suck that bad? I would think it wouldn't cost a lot for them to engineer an efficient air box.

Does anyone have experience with the Renntech Carbon Fiber Airbox. 40HP sounds excessive, but if it is true, I AM GETTING ONE....

First line is completely stock, 2nd line is with the ECU/TCU upgrade. and the last line is with the CF airbox. This was from when it was first installed, It showed about a 25hp gain on 100 octane fuel. It had a larger increase with 109 octane , and you can take the air filters out when racing to give it even more power. But also keep in mind this is a different car, Im not even sure what the E55 would produce

Yeah but again, you are talking about a cargo ship sized motor compared to our V8's. The Twin Turbies seem to benefit much more from every little thing done to them.

ECU on the friggin things adds 127HP with 222 fl lbs more torque.

It's apples and oranges.....the V8 and the V12 from hell.

why dont you go look at my origional post... i stated that we had a 65 and that i was unsure about the E55's. I know the engine types are different and turbo vs superchargers will be different, and all i was trying to do was to give some input on how well the CF airboxes from Renntech were actually good upgrades.

I think it has more to do with the turbos than anything else. Our motors with twin gt30's would be sick on pump gas. :v

Just bringing this thread back to life as I seriously consider getting the Renntech Carbon Fiber Airbox. BTW, did anyone notice that Casper was able to realize a 25hp gain with his airbox whereas Renntech states only a 15hp gain for the SL65. I think Renntech understates the horsepower gain and thus this airbox might also give our E55s more than a 15 hp gain..

If you look at the design of the RennTech box versus the Y AMG rubber connector you can readily see where the air flow is less restricted with the carbon fiber box. Besides cubic inches (liters) airflow is the biggest friend of higher power delivery.

Look at the post regarding pictures of the Renntech box in the SL55/SL65 forum and you will see a picture of the box installed on my SL55.
