Tire Opinions - BFG KDW-2s?

I need to get tires today. One of my tires is coming apart! I'm seriously considering a Kleemann K2 upgrade, so I need some tires that are good for traction on dry pavement, but also relatively safe if I get caught in the rain. Anyone tried the BFG KDWs or KDW2s?

I have them on a 300zx I own and they've been fantastic. I'm not sure how they'll feel on your car, but they've been the best I've ever tried so far.

I recently came out of Michelin Pilot Sports which I thought were probably some of the best tires I've used. However, I like trying different tires from time to time to see if another tire fits my driving style better. Tires are like shoes and you have got to use the one that's best for you and often that requires trying a new brand to see if they may fit you better. This go round, I'm trying Avon's to see if they are as good as many say they are. If not, I'll switch back to the Michelin's.

I was very close to getting the BFGoodrich KDW2's but I changed my mind after reading the Tire Racks's survey results. The biggest and possibly only downfall was that the KDW2's are an extremely noisy tire. I wouldn't mind that on a sports car but it's unacceptible on a four door saloon. Please let us know how they perform on your E55.

I've been pondering the tire selection issue as well.
Car&Driver did a high perf tire review in their Dec'05 issue.
The BFG T/A KD were "Killer on Dry", therefore the abreviation, but spooky in the wet.
The BFG KDW2 are perf tires that do better in the rain and were not evaluated in this test.
I've been considering trying out the KDs since I don't need to drive the Beast much in the rain and was also hoping that all the electronic safety nets would save me.
They won't help much in a wet panic stop in comparison to a better rain tire.
I know the PS2s are a good safe bet and probably the Goodyear GS-D3s.
I've also been considering the Bridgestone S-03s.
The S-03s were also not tested in the CD tire review.

I would love to hear more reviews of tires for the E55 beyond that already submitted for the PS2s.

PS2's, GSD3's, S03's -- all good choices, can't really go 'wrong' with any of them - or best odds of being satisfied with each of them.

Experimentation is good, if you can afford a major disappointment - and the cost of a new set of 4 tires - if you make a really bad choice.....

I would be interested in the Conti2's if I was a gambling man; and maybe in trying the Advans....

The only reason I'd experiment with tire brands would be a significant savings. Is there any cost advantage to any of these tires?

Thumbs down Not A Good Choice!

WBRCobra - I have had the BFG KDW-2s on my BMW 2002 540i Wagon for about 18,000 miles now. The tire is niosy and rumbles at low speeds and at the end of stops. Personally I would choose another tire if I were you. I am going to change to another tire soon because of the noise. - Bob

I think I had only received the one positive reply when I placed the order for the BFG KDW2s. If they are too loud I'll go with the PS2s instead. I'll let you know.

Don't know if it is any help buy my son has them on his 03 Cobra and likes them a lot. The damn car is so loud that he can't really tell if they are noisy or not but he likes them and the tread pattern is pretty awesome. Just my .02
