chip/engine swap

ok i didn't know where to post this but i know theres some serious moders in this section that might know better....

i know theres a few different chips out there but the powerchip is 3-4 times the most then the others i have seen, is it really worth it?

last question is in the future i will be doing a engine swap but need to know what exactly do i need....

engine/tranny if needed/wire harness/ecu/instrument cluster?? also will everything inside be working all right or does the dealer need to reprogram something??

thanks guys

Alex,

You should check with Carl about doing engine swaps as he already did this project on his W202. What exactly are you trying to do? 210 55 engine on your car?

hahah, guess i can't keep any secrets anymore......well i want to do a c36 motor in there so i can have a e36........haaah.....

i love the straight up motor and the c36 platform is a nice one to start with.....i wanted to buy a used c36 but then if i do the swap between the cars then i'll have a c36 c320 on my hand for no reason and it seems like a waste.......i dunno...

but i woldn't have to do the tranny if i got the c36........just to throw it up without discount i can get a motor at the dealer for 5,000 but it's just the motor......

Don't bother with a C36 motor, not enough HP gain to justify the cost. You will end up spending at least $3000 extra in labor and parts to do the swap if you just buy the motor. So figure about $8000 for a E36 swap. Best cost effective approach would be a C32 AMG or E55/E55K AMG swap. It will be an easier swap if you had a salvaged car and swap the internals. You won't have to deal with buying extra parts if you have the whole car. Dealers mark up their prices so much on parts and core charges, it's crazy. Assuming you have a V6 M112 motor like I did, you won't have to buy a new tranny if you go the C32 route. A C32 swap will cost you about $10,000. E55, probably $15,000. Getting a complete salvaged car is a different story altogether....

Geez...why all the interest in swaps now? j/k.

i've thought about what you've said before.....a swap has always been on the back of my mind expect i never thought i would want to do more to my car then what it was before but now theres no going back now.......i wanted the c36 motor because it'll last the longest and i wouldn't stop with just a mtoro swap, i would also s/c or turbo the motor if i did the c36 but would the c32 fit in there??

If you do a c36 engine swap and plan on supercharging it, then make sure you use a low boost supercharger on it, because it has a higher compression ratio than a motor that's setup for forced induction, like the C32 and E55K motors, which have a lower 9:1 compression ratio. The C36 has a 10.5:1 compression ratio. High boost and high compression ratio is very bad for the engine.

Your best option would be just to keep your existing motor and slap on a centrifugal supercharger kit, maybe even port and polish it at the same time. The House of Power makes them for the 202, 208, and 210 chasis. They cost about $9000 installed I think, and you will be making more HP for less money and trouble than a swap. Plus, the kit works right unlike some people who tried installing a few lysholm AMG superchargers on their NA cars.

A C32 AMG engine will fit into a 210 chasis and costs at least $10,000. Kleemanizing it would cost at least $13,000. HOP's Type C1 supercharger kit costs less (approx $9000) and makes as much if not more HP. If I had a M112 motor in a 210, I would get the centrifugal supercharger kit at HOP.

Your worst nightmare...
I am sure you guys have seen what i have up my sleeve. I receive my motor tomorrow (2003 SL55 motor). I am dropping this in my C32. My motor after the swap and everything is good would be up for sale along with my ECU....Any takers, only 46k miles.

Sean's Sister--
is neal that guy that did the 55 motor into a w202?

pshek, so your saying it'll be better to s/c the straight 6 motor?? i would love to do that but it'll get me close to a stock w210e55 which is cool but i wanted more hp out of it.....

i also talked to josh k and to do a s/c on mine from hop it would have to be all custom and they don't have a kit for my car....

any thoughts?

Your worst nightmare...
I bought the car from a Salvage yard in California, all the salvage yards around here wanted over 15k dollars for a used motor, i found this one very cheap less then 5k dollars, it needs some work, but you can't beat the price. What I plan to do with the C32 motor after my project is complete and everything is working fine is to sell it along with any other parts that i take off. Are you interested in buying it?

Dang, and I thought I got a good deal on my motor. Good luck trying to get it into your c32. It will take a lot of work, not to mention time involved in moving everything from the radiator forward 3".

My secret is.... for any mercedes part search on Car-part.com searches every existing yard on the US, of course that has an electronic inventory. This has everything.

Hmmmm,I never thought of that and hope he does'nt have to go thru that adventure.I wonder if the 202 front end is longer than the C32 203 front end?Or if the engine bay in the 203 C55 is longer

What model and yr W210 do you have? The C36 motor would only easily drop in the W210 with the straight 6 and not the V6.Every W210 L6 b4 1998 that is.

It would be more expensive than dropping in the C36 motor.Your still not saying what car you have so I'll assume you have a straight 6 since it's a 97.
