AMG at Geneva Motor Show
Hi Guys,
Got back yesterday from the show and it was pretty good. Pictures will follow later - I have a bundle.
But for now some news from the Head of AMG marketing. When asked "Is the E63 coming?” He said “I cannot confirm anything now, but you will know in 4 weeks". I think he was dying to tell me, but could not. More telling perhaps was the fact that there was no E55 on display - at least I could not find it.
Also when asked why is there no performance option for the E he said they view the E as a GT and not a sports car, and they reserve perf packs for coupe's and roadsters only. The CLS just makes it by being a '4-door' coupe (wtf??). I only had like 4 mins of the guys time and I forgot to ask if they will s/c / turbo the 63 motor and from what I could gather they were making too much of a song and dance about its the worlds most powerfull n/a V8 so I cannot see that happening.
Also there seems to be a tier of performance and prestige now ...
Bi Turbo V12
Kompressor V8
6.3 n/a
…and I think its in that order. But the AMG guys were making a big song and dance about this new motor .... I guess they have alot riding on this motor for their division being their first wholly internally developed.
It seems the SL will not get the 63 engine - which follows form the pecking order above. The SL55 was there in its perf version, and seems f/i motors will be kept for their top range.
So in my read, we will see an E63 in a few weeks. Whether it will be better / faster than the E55 I think will be debatable. The CLK63 is definitely a nice motor.
No Kleemann stand there so a little disappointed.
Rgds Steve.

The version I saw did not seem wide body a-la DTM - but looked pretty much like a standard CLK, with carbon ceramic brakes and the new steering wheel...
Also there are some new style wheels were out and will try post pics tonight if my 13 month old gets to sleep early enuf ... and does not wake up ... and my wife recovers from the flu!
Nicest car there was the 997TT ... if money was no object gents I would have given them my cheque there and then. Lurvely... and aparently 0-62 mph in 3.8 for the tiptronic version... mmmm.
Porsche is still- in my opinion - the best road racer you can get. No flames -m just my opinion.

Wow that is nice ... did not see it at the show though ... the CLK63 does not have these flares - but mbe you can get it as part of a perf pack ... and its a great compromise between stock CLK63 and the DTM.

Bugatti Veyron
1000hp .... !
Faster from 0-200mph than a McLaren F1 from 120-200mph.

Sl55
So it keeps the 55 motor ... mmm interesting. The slowest of the AMG range is getting the 6.3 motor : ML, GL, and R class.
Possibly E is next... actually I hope not, but a 7 speed tranny would be nice.

One Ferrari please I also like the way the 997 GT3 looks. Maybe I should cancel my 997 S order... NO, NO,!!!
BTW, what's with the AMG rep's comment about the E55 not having any perf. packages available. That's right dumb asses, keep pushing people to BMW Could you imagine what the E55 would do to the M5 with it's current HP/Tq and just a little improvement in the handling/feel dept.? It wouldn't take a lot.
