Start-up engine fan noise / gear shift questions - HELP

Hi everyone, 2 quick questions please:

1) when I first fire up the engine, for the first minute or so, the engine sounds very loud, and the noise seems to come from some kind of fan or something, and when I open up the engine bay to see what's going on, I couldn't really tell exactly where the fan noise was coming from except it was fairly near the top of the engine, but it goes away in about a minute or two. It was more of a fan noise than engine noise Is this normal operating producer for the 55 engine at start-up?

2) when pushing the car fairly hard in 2nd gear (up to around 5k rpm), I shift gear into 3rd by using the botton, but the engine doesn't shift right away and the rev kept on going for a bit. Is this normal? How fast or slow is it suppose to shift? (in S mode)

Thanks.

SAC

thanks guys for the quick response! so the engine noise is normal (sounds like a big *** jet engine or something!!), what about the gear shifting part? is the delay of shifting under hard driving normal?

Yes the delay is normal if your pushing high revs. It assumes you want to continue in that fashion even if you slightly lift from the accelerator, I've noticed.

Its the kompressor

What you hear is the supercharger, they make a whinning noise. The noise sounds like I have a bad power steering pump. I personnaly hate the noise but like what it does...

I get the same thing on my 06. As for the shifting, it's pretty irritating. When I drive hard, I usually run it up pretty close to the redline, and when I push the shifter button to upshift, I always end up bouncing off the limiter because the shifting is too slow. Now I just leave it in Sport mode, and find that it actually does a pretty decent job of upshifting/downshifting when I want it to.

Yep I agree just leave it in sport mode. It down shifts and up shifts pretty damn good. The only time I really use the buttons is to down shift. The up shifts though are pretty good.
