M5 owner says he beat Lowered E55 !!!
Here is the story:
http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=70452
When will someone have an honest RACE stock vs stock off the line
...and mid-range pulls...
basically it was more like a chase to catch up than a kill..
the E55 blew past him and he drop down to the his power band and caught up to the E55. Either way we don't know both sides of the story.
1) the E55 was not pushing that hard and the M5 was WOT
or
2) the e55 was WOT and the M5 was able to reel him in.
either way, the 7spd of the M5 really shine on the freeway.
One comment that I thought was "ignorant" was a M5board member saying that it probably was modded.
He definately has no clue what a simple chip and pulley can do these cars and not to mention headers.

Well, at least from 80 to 130 I am! Was on rather lonely stretch of i95 yesterday morning, on my way to pick up my kid @PBI, when this black, lowered E55 AMG came storming past me in the right lane. I quickly made 2 downshifts to 5th, and immediately gave pursuit. Although he obviously got a hell of a jump on me, from 80 all the way up to 135, I ran him down like a wounded deer. Once I caught up with him, we started encountering traffic, so I backed off to a more sane speed again. Never did see him again. I think he was too embarrassed!
Hey, what's important is that your company "LET'S" you access MBWorld"
New M5 owner here (March) and I debated long and hard between the M5 and E55. Even if the E55 looks better, the main reason I went with the M5 was because it was newer and a better balanced car... but having driven both cars - I'd have to say that he probably let you catch him or didn't notice you behind him.
While I'd give the nod to the M5 at higher speeds in a even race (from a dig the E55 jumps away from us), their is no way we're going to catch that car if the driver blows past us and goes all out - well unless you give us 20 or so miles to catch up. The cars are just too close performance wise.

you hit it right the head..
the performance of the E55 from 0 to 120 is hard to beat.. after that the highway pull of the M5 will prevail if given the proper running room..
however if the E55 was WOT zooming by an M5, it will take more than just 500 hp and 7spds to make the lost time and distance..
afterall the performance advantage of an M5 0 to 150 on the E is less than 4 seconds (according to the US mag tests)
congrats on the M5!
man I would pay to watch this match up...
someday they will run into a stage1 or stage 2 55k motor. its a matter of time.

No matter how you slice and dice this it'll never end.
forget about lowered...
