IPOD Video to Command Screen?

Has anyone been able to hook up their IPOD Video to play on their NAV Screen? I already have the IPOD audio mod, but I carry some of my favorite TV shows on my Video IPOD and I would like to watch them while I wait in my car.

I would settle for just getting the song titles and artist name on the display. It's goofy that the song title only appears on the tiny comand screen and not on the large color display.

It would also be nice to use the buttons on the side of the screen to navigate the ipod rather than the awkward steering wheel buttons.

Option A) Go Euro and get a TV tuner and AUX input for video

Option B) Wait a little longer for the interface to arrive on the market.

Apple computer has not released the firmware which allows a cradle mounted Movie iPOD to be controlled by a data device such as a car.

Apple dumped the hardware iPOD Movie on the market half finished.

There are some hacks for forcing TV to work on any COMAND but I generally ignore those as being a waste of time.

I really don't need OEM functionality from the head unit. Just a way to input video from my IPOD stored in my center console.

I thought about having a DVD player installed but I didn't want to mar up the interior. My 60 gig IPOD holds more content than just movies, like TV shows and even photos. It would be a cool unobtrusive mod.

...............if you are not interested in actually controlling the IPOD from the head unit. Then what you seek is something that had been done already. Get a OEM Tv tuner and your AMERICAN comand activated to accept TV and simply plug your IPOD to the OEM TV tuner. There is a video cable sold by IPOD it ia male 1/8 on one side and male RCA on the other side. The 1/8 end plugs into your IPOD and the RCA end plugs into your OEM TV tuner.

I dont think the E55 US command has a TV button.. It was replaced by the SAT button. YOu might need to go euro command.

...................you definitely do not need a Euro Comand. The SAT button can be activated for video input. The advantage of the Euro Comand is that the Comand itself can be activated so that the in-dash DVD slot on the comand can play DVD's. If you need TV, you still need an MB TV tuner as is the case with the AMerican Comand.

So what you are saying is that you dont need a Euro COMAND but you do.

................you may wish to read the entire thread first. The forum member is trying to feed video input from the IPOD to the Comand, not have the Comand itself decode and play DVD's. The SAT button on his American comand can be activated and an OEM TV tuner connected to his Comand for both TV functionality and video input from an external source such as a DVD player or his IPOD. This is not too complicated and has been done many times. No Euro comand is involved. I understand you sell Euro comands. Euro Comands are great, but not everyone needs them. When the only tool you have is a hammer, the whole world looks like a nail. If you need further clarification, let me know.

Not sure if this option is available on your Comand, but Steve hooked up an A/V adapter to my W203 US Comand. It's a much cheaper option than TV tuner and the video quality is excellent.

..............you are quite correct. If one is not interested in TV, then you can use the video adapter as in your case. Again no Euro Comand and also less expensive than using the oem TV tuner.

Its rather pointless to speak of E-class and then switch to C-class.

..............not really sure what your dissagreement is. If the facts stated are incorrect, then say so. If you think the issue he raised is not applicable to the W211 then say so. If you have a point, then make it. For the record, the example he raised is applicable to the W211 and has been done before. One of the MB dealers in Atlanta is an authorized intaller for NAV-TV and have done this particular modification using the American Comand. The dealer is Atlanta Classic Cars. The telephone number is by members of this forum. The telephone number is 1-800-765-5728. The contact person is Nash. Again if you need further clarification, let me know.

As I understand it, the function needs to be activated somehow and the only "available" button is the SAT. I don't know of another way to activate the adapter, but the pros might!

............No, you cannot do that. In either the Euro Comand or the American Comand, TV activation is not compatible with SAT radio as offered by mercedes dealer. In the Euro Comand you don't even have SAT radio to begin with. You can of course have video and SAT radio by having the Audio from a hideaway aftermarket SAT radio unit directed into the comand via the RCA input jacks of either your TV tuner or AV adapter. There multiple possibilities one you have A?V input to the comand. You can buy A/V hub with as many imputs as you choose and have everything in the world including IPOD, PS2, DVD, SAT radio etc directed through the A/V into your comand through either the OEM TV tuner or the A/V adapter.

thanks.... i have the ipod kit now, but it's a little disappointing that you can only control it via the steering wheel, not the command, and it won't display anything on the command....

I was thinking of using one of the new ipod menu out interfaces to display on the command screen, but I like my SAT radio too much to give up...

here was my last mac-mini integration in my M45.... worked great:

http://www.dragtimes.com/gallery/200...Mini-Front-Row

seems like BMW has the upperhand now in the ipod integration area, wonder if MB would ever do a software update to get the ipod on the command screen...

Thanks for the info guys... I've got the IPOD video wire and am reasearching a trustworty nearby a/v dealer to do the hook-up.

As far as the SAT vs Video input goes...I wonder if I can set up an A-B switch and vary the input source to the head unit?
