O6 E-55 Tranny Issue
I have about 1300 miles on my car. When I shift out of reverse into drive ther is a noticable lag until the car shifts into drive. If you even release the brake and give a little throttle, the tranny will slam home into drive. Anyone else have this delay??? Of course the dealer said they noticed no issues during my free inspection, but i was not there to go thru it with them.......

Give us rough time for the lag. I have a lag, but I it doesn't bug me too much. Mine is a fraction of sec, but I definitely know it's there.
You talking like 2-3 seconds or something.

I have the EXACT same issue, and was blown off by the dealer as well. It's not a small delay, and it is especially bad when cold. I mean, a thousand 1, a thousand 2, a thousa......BANG, it's in gear, sometimes pretty roughly. God I love paying a 100K for the SOS.

All Benzes have a very slight lag time but nothing like Fast55 and cap have described and certainly not banging into gear; MB would not design the trans to behave this way and let them know that. I personally wait until the gear has been engaged going from park into rev or drive before driving off but I only have to wait a second or two. Cap and 55, get the dealer's shop foreman involved, have him test any other E55/CLS55/Cl55/SL55 and show him this is NOT normal. If you have to, keep bringing the car in for this issue and build up the days out of service, if they refuse to or cannot fix it Lemon Law the car.
Please keep us all posted on the fix, it sounds electronics and or valve body related.

As you indicated, a slight lag, but nothing like I have. When I brought it in to complain, I was basing the performance of the trans (or lack of) on the trans in the W210 E55. It was never designed to handle 500 supercharged horsepower, but is much better behaved and much quicker to respond than the '06 even after 50K miles.
The engagement isn't always rough, but it is almost always slow. While at Silver Star, they admitted it was "a little slow" to engage, but since there were no codes, all is well! The other problem I have of the car cutting out momentarily or "stumbling" on acceleration wasn't even addressed. There is already a tarnish on my A-M-G that will never go away. What's worse is, I detailed all of this in my MB customer survey and in an e-mail to my salesman at FJ. The response from both was......................
None.

2006 E-55
I had an 02 e-55 and had no lag at all and that is why I am asking because it is so noticable. I will count today but I think it is a good second and 1/2. I was in the car with my wife last night and forgot about the lag, slightly hit the throttle and bang!!! She goes what the hell was that!!! Oh nothing dear.....just my new car............

I get the reverse lag once in a while but not consistently. If I do a quick 3 point U turn I usually get it. Inconsistently I also get the hard shift sometimes, especially if the engine is cold. The Mercedes Tech said it probably was the transfer fluid temp. It doesn't seem to so bad after the engine is hot. I have also learned to smooth out my acceleration. I quickly ease on the pedal from a stop and follow through evenly. I get up to speed a lot faster with much smoother shifts

I have an 06 e55 and have had no such issue. I think that it is definitely not normal, not even on a $7000 kia, let alone E55. I agree that you have to keep bringing the car back until they fix it. I would also have a reputable independent trans shop document the problem in case you want to lemon law the car.

My '06 has some delay - but ntg execessive I dont think. I am carefull not to gas it untill I know gear is engaged. Gasing it before its enagaged will not do tranny or motor any good. When cold this seems worse although generally gear engaging is generally slow. I find gear changing i.e. 1st to 2nd etc even slow) - I thot its because its a chuncky 'tranny... ??
Get it back to stealer ... keep moaning - why have MB not sorted out their custy service ... ??? Geez its getting a little painfull ...
Also "service" today at a stealer is a bit of a laugh ... if there is no "error code" everything is fine ... what a joke ... that reminds me I need to get my car in for its squeaks... they will probably say - "there is no check code - this is normal".
Rgds Steve.

Mine goes in for it's first service on Monday. I've already made the appointment and made sure to say it was coming back for these problems AGAIN.
With zero response from MB and FJ, it's not looking good for the future of MB for me. I've already given up on Calabasas, and am thoroughly un-impressed by Silver Star. Maybe drive north and try Cutter.
