At least we know this won't turn out like the Stephens debacle. Put me down as well... $2200 when you're ready. Email kanebeartoo AT aol.com.

After driving it yesterday (which was a little rough because the ECU was remapping) and now today I have a little feedback:

1) Much crisper throttle response. I expected this since the throttle opening is much bigger now, but was still happy to see it. This is my favourite behaviour in a car.. The sharper the better as far as I am concerned.

2) Highway pull.. Oh My... This bigger TB really shines when you are up in the tripple digits and you want to accelerate. I think the biggest gain will be shown at high speeds based on what I felt this morning. The car pulled from 120 km/h to 192km/h VERY quickly! I had a nice smile on..

ECU still needs more time to learn so I am expecting it to get even better.

Once I am done with the dyno and I see the results on paper (hopefully my ECU wont need to be remapped again) then I will feel comfortable moving forward and creating another one for someone else... Hang in there.. We're almost done.
damn stud. you da man. got any dyno pulls? do you have any tbs left? thanks brotha.

Ok guys.. I am trying to find the best way to handle this so it is as painless as possible...

We are trying to lock up 7 TBs and associated parts. There are 2 ways we can handle the payments.

1) Please send the $2,200 + 3% Paypal fee = $2266 to Paypal acct: vrus1@hotmail.com

2) If you dont have paypal, email me at vrus1@hotmail.com and I will email you back the wire instructions. You can wire the funds to me so that we dont have to deal with couriers and mailing stuff across the border.

If I cant get enough of the AMG 80mm TB for everyone, do you guys care if I switch over to the Maybach TB ? They operate the same except for the wiring and have the same physical dimensions (except for mounting holes).

The Maybach TB is a little cheaper from what I remember.

Hey Mike,

Trying to lock up enough TBs for everyone that asked. 2 are available today.. 5 more need to be located.

Dyno pulls are scheduled either tomorrow or Friday.. I've been waiting for a cool day because its been above 30C here in T.O.

Victor - how difficult is this to install? I can't do this sort of thing myself, so what kind of time will it take an experienced tech to do this?

Blower needs to come out.. Dont attempt this yourself. Let a shop do it..

My tech at MB was able to re/re the pullies, change my supercharger clutch pack and re/re blower and sort out the TB issues in 1.5days.

That means it should take approx 5 - 6hrs for someone to re/re blower & put the TB in.

Jim,

Thanks for bringing this up.. I was going to ask for shipping money once the box is packed and ready to go... I rounded the price up to $2,200 but the real cost is $2,172.. I left $28 in there for incidentals in case something comes up.

Hopefully they didnt make a mistake on the landed cost and I wont get hammered by Canada Customs. I'll find out after the first one.. You guys might have to come and bail me out if the government comes looking for money later.. LOL..

JakPro1 & GTA23109a both sent in their money already.. Rather than hold everything up waiting for the rest, I asked Germany to forward their 2 pieces so I can get their kits built.

So, guys... Your 2 AMG 80mm TB on their way from Germany!! I'll send you pics of your new children when they arrive.. LOL...

Is this essentially the same setup that Kleemann sells?

Pretty close.. Here are the differences:

Kleemann uses the V12TT TB which is a bit cheaper than the AMG 80mm TB but functionality wise they are the same.

The V12TT TB doesnt have the EGR tube at the bottom (as far as I know) because it is meant to be mounted vertically instead of horizontally. Therefore, when you install it, you have to route the EGR tube that comes out of the driver's side manifold into the supercharger inlet (which used to connect to the bottom of TB).

Also, they dont supply an 80mm Y-pipe with their kit. They supply a silicone hose and 2 clamps to allow you to secure the stock Y-pipe to the 80mm TB.

Other than that, they are pretty much the same.

Oh forgot one thing.. The way I did the adapter was to weld on a CNC plate onto the supercharger inlet .. I believe they created a plate which screws into the inlet and then the TB screws into that.. Not sure because Kleemann doesnt post pictures of alot of their stuff.. Its hard to be able to disect something when you cant see it.

Kleemann put together a nice kit.. I am not sure what Renntech does but I dont think they even have an 80mm kit, so I think I am at least ahead of Renntech in R&D.. LOL...

Thanks! I really appreciate that and it means alot to me!

I went back to look through the thread today because I realized I ordered parts for someone else to put on their car and realized:

Started: 5/1/2006
Car fired up: 7/12/2006

10 week timeline isn't too bad at all considering everything was done part time... I am very happy with the way it turned out.. I have to say that the car pulls so damn hard.. I cant wait to put it on the dyno. That will be the icing on the cake for me (assuming my tune and belt slip issues are ok now).

Tomorrow is the day if the weather is good. Wish me luck!

IIRC, Renntech advertises their TB as 78mm. Ported stock unit then, perhaps?

Hmm.. that would be tough.. wall thickness on the stock TB was barely enough to squeeze 76mm.. I asked to try and stretch to 77mm and I was told they were afraid the wall would collapse/crumble.

They must be using a different TB altogether for some reason.. You would think EX-AMG guys would of at least used the AMG 80mm TB that I found???

Yah, no telling. That's just me going from memory, so I could be off on the size as well.

Ok Guys... We got a call from our German friend this morning.. There are only 25 of these left in the WORLD! (right now)

They've put all 25 on hold for us until we tell them how many we want.. LOL... That's pretty cool... We dont need that many, but it was a nice jesture!!

MachC5 (Thanks James!!) has joined in and sent the money.. His parts are on hold..

Finny & Kens-E55.. No pressure, but, Are you guys still in?? If so, please send the funds over so I can have the last 3 put together and shipped over here. The quote I received was for QTY 5 so if we dont allocate 2 more I will have to raise up the price a bit. The reason I got a quote for 5 was because there were 7 people who wanted one and I figured 1 or 2 would change their mind..

Thanks everyone!

VRUS:

I'm in and wiring the funds to you this morning.
One wire is for the $206 - Deposit for CF airbox
The second wire will be for the TB -$2200

T/T usually show up the same business day if done early enough in the day
...so you should see both by this afternoon.

Thanks
Ken

I noticed that from the picture of the throttle body you measured at the front of the throttle body, aren't you suppose to measure at the machined flange side?
