- Mercedes-Benz E-Class AMG: How to Reset Your ECU
Step by step instructions for do-it-yourself repairs
Holy Crap you guys.....sneaky ECU reset WORKS!!!
Hey Keoni,
It SHOULD work and will NOT erase your aftermarket tune. It's like resetting the adaptive tranny setting via a Diablo tuner on the Jeeps. It helps adapt to your driving style.
The Best of Mercedes & AMG
Anyway proceeded to do some launches and I can really tell a difference in shifts. Someone said it best....feels like the car had a tune up or something.
I COMMAND all of you to try this (well if you are not happy with your current setup). I just know now my car set me up wimpy due to long highway miles after driving back from Klee. Enjoy!!!
1. Turn the ignition key to the on (not start) position.
2. Press the gas pedal to the floor and hold for five seconds.
3. Turn the key to the "off" position (don't remove the key), then release the gas pedal.
4. Wait at least two minutes for ECU to reset.
Once I do the four steps and let it sit for 2 minutes, what do I do then? Start it up? Take the key out and then put it back in and start it?
You will hear this every time you take your key out of the ignition and wait for 30 seconds. The systems shutting down and the actuator motors are closing the vent flaps. This has NOTHING to do with the TCU reset.
Proof? Sit inside your car, turn the radio off, take the keys out and sit and wait. You don't even have to lock yourself in. Just sit and wait and you will hear it after 30 seconds to max 2 minutes (I never had to wait that long). The CAN Bus shuts down even sooner (as soon as your cluster display turns off, the CAN Bus is asleep).

All this prodedure achieves is to synchronise the throttle actuator plate with the throttle pedal. i.e. pedal on the floor = WOT. The system can lose calibration over time.
