I don't know, not sure on the performance specs on either cars. However I think the Porsche would because of it's weight and placment of the engine.
Could be wrong though some else chime in on this.

Stock for stock,E55 will be the winner in a 1/4 mile, even against the 911tt......but mod for mod,the E55 dont stand a chance. The 911 will even out handles the E55......on any twisty road under any conditions.

997 TT will walk all over the new E63AMG. A modded E55 (K2 or up) has a better chance against the new Porsche Beast. Having owned a 996TT, I would say my modded E55 would outrun the TT in the straights but it's all over for the E when the twisties come

I am very curious too. My good friend has a '04 Cab TT-X50. I think I would maybe beat him or tie him in the 1/4 stock? I am modded now so he has even less incentive to lose to a car HALF the cab X50's price.
I raced him in my 450hp '01 S4-tt and was neck to neck from 5-80mph, by 100 he was 2 cars ahead. I then raced my S4 with my E55 and the E55 had 1 car by 100 on the S4 from 10mph. From 0-60 the S4 would walk the E55 by 2 cars, the hole shot was AWESOME. I would beat 750, 900 cc bikes by ALOT (2-4 cars) to 40mph, they would pass me at 60mph HARD though, and those bikes were launching good from when I spoke to them.
How many 911tt's are running 11.9-12.2 bone stock? X50s should be running 11.8-12.0s but we are talking about 35-40 less hp here in the 911tt. Given you bought the E55 who cares about the twistes, if any bought the E55 for handling you bought the wrong car.
The new one should put our K2's though the paces. The straight roads are not getting any easier with the C6Z's, M6's and 997tt's.

I had the same experiencerunning against a 996tt modded,he had bigger turbos ,headers, exhaust, ecu upgrade and bov...he said evo told him he would make about 600-650 rwhp....I have k4 set up with 500rwhp,and 640ft lb tq,.I pulled him off the line, but he went by me close to the 1/8 mile mark and kept pulling...it was ugly.

I had a 996 turbo s walk me awhile back. I think I was is c mode and he came from behind me at a light and passed me and pulled about 2 cars at the 100mph mark. I am still looking for a rematch to make sure the car was that fast. When I see him again I will let you all know. Very fast cars though and as you reach the 100mph range they seem to really start to move. Oh well just my .02

I think it was the 04 or 05 Porsche Turbo cabriolet...I think it's the one with 415 ponies or so. Mags have those running 12.2 @118 stock. That's why I was curious whether I would be able to pull on him

These turbo's are really awesome. 4wd in the wet you got less than zero chance, possibly why he was tailgating you.
I have to say I am surprised just how well the E55's keep up with the Porsche, and often beat them. I have always held the TT in high esteem, their acceleration is just crushing. I met one on the road the other day but we had no space to play... was looking for an opportunity!!
The new 997T will leave us looking for parking though. A 3.8 0-100km/h is mind boggling and thats a reliable launch as its with the tiptronic system. It is currently my dream sports car ... one day, but even so I wont get rid of the 55!

E55 faster than 996TT
Here is a quick refresher video to settle the argument: E55 stock is faster than 996TT- definitely so in a straight line and maybe on the twisties, if you have the right tires and better skills.
As far as Turbo S is concerned, I saw one do 11.99sec on the night I managed 12.35sec 1/4 mile.

There is no way a E55 can keep up with a 996TT in the twisties no matter what you say.... as much as I would love to believe it.

Rafal's video shows how a more skilled driver can beat the Porsche, even on a track.

He was probaly trying to get past you while you were hogging up the fast lane. When someone tailgates you, get out of the way. They aren't trying to race you. Just a heads up.
The drag btw a 911TT and E55 would be even, but the beauty of the E55 is that you just mash and go. The 911TT driver better be a damn good shifter if he wants to beat an E55.

A TechArt bodykit with 9ff tuning on a 997TT is f-ing deadly.

I use to own a porsche 996TT and I would have to say I can't see how an E55 could beat it!! I could be wrong though..
As for the new generation 997TT, it's in a totally different class (light years ahead of the E63) with its new Variable Turbine Geometry (VTG). It's a shame that MB decided to go for a naturally aspirated engine whereas other manufacturers are improving induction methods.
The 997TT has the smartest tiptronic transmission I've ever seen.. With a professional driver in a manual 997TT you could get a 0-100km acceleration of 3.9s. The new tiptronic however gets you just under 3.7s!! This is way better than the "conservative" 4.5s of the upcoming E63
It would actually be more of an insult to compare the Porsche Turbo with the E63/M5/S6 sport sedans rather than head-to-head with hardcore supercars:
Ferrari Enzo 3.65
Lamborghini Murcielago 3.8
Mercedes-Benz SLR 3.8
Porsche Carrera GT 3.9
So all in all.. If you get a 997 Turbo with tiptronic transmission, no other car beats you (0-100km) unless you happen to pass by Michael Schumacher driving a Ferrari Enzo and only than might he get the extra 0.05 seconds right!

Or a Bugatti Veyron for that matter:

But we're talking here about the more popular, or should I dare say: "affordable" supercars..
If such a term exists!!
