Ok put on PS2's and I'm still getting overnight flat spotting, I never had this problem with MY CLK500 although it had Pilot Sports not 2's. Do you think it could still be the balance and if so why am I only getting the steering shimmiy when the tires have sat for a while, the worst is after I park in a indoor garage and the tires are hot, I'll get nasty shimmy for about a minute then it smooths right out. Is everyone else experiencing this? Will a balance on the GSP9700 help with this issue perhaps by match mounting the high and low spots of the rim and tire. Please help I hate this!!!! !!!!!

my pos p-zeros do the exact things your saying the mich are doing.
I have never had a set of mich do this are you running 19's or 20's??

Well I hate to admit it, but over the years I've had several different performance tires do this. Yes it smooths right after a couple miles, but it happens on many tires:

Pilot Sports
Pilot Sports AS
Bridgestones 070
Yokohama db's

Now the real crazy thing........I bought a CHEAP set of Hankooks - K104's, and the problem is not nearly as frequent. The car has to sit for days at a time for the tires to get a flat spot... for Daily driving...NO Flat spots!

If it really bothers you, go to tirecradle.com. They eliminate flat spotting and the site has good info about tires.

Strange. My Conti's flat spotted after sitting for only a day or 2. With my PS2's, my car has sat for a week without any flatspotting. I always inflate my tires with an extra pound of pressure. I don't know if this has helped me avoid flat spotting on my PS2's, but maybe it is worth a shot.

I'll try the pressure increase. Normally with Pilot's I never had this problem too

I have them...I think they work well but until I get my balance checked I won't know for sure; I'll file a full report then.

Stock 18's. My CLK500 flat spotted with PZero's and Pole Position 3's but NEVER with Pilot's! Why so much then on the 55?

So, excuse my complete ignorance on this topic. I've seen a lot of people talk about it, but what exactly do you notice when you drive? And how old do the tires have to be (i.e., does it happen right away from brand new?)? Is it something only noticeable under "extreme" driving? Or just pulling out of the driveway? I don't notice anything with my stock contis, but I may be just too ignorant to know that it's happening...

I was told that basically because they are very wide, low profile tires and as such virtually all of them (and others) will do so until they heat up. Even in the garage they cool down and flat spot, but as soon as you start driving they heat up and "fill out" they way they are supposed to. I do not notice any flat spotting during the summer months. Guess that's why drag racers and GT racers are always heating their tires up before they run.

Car is new, PS2's were put on before delivery. If the car sits overnight and/or I've been driving and the tires are hot and I park on a cold/indoor floor like a parking garage, for at least an hour and I then drive off and immediately get up to 55-60 the steering wheel starts to shimmy from side to side rapidly and smooths out after about a mile or two of driving. I'm hoping after a good balance on the Hunter GSP9700 it will help due to the fact it locates the high and low spots of the rim and tire and advises the operator how/where to offset them.

The only thing that I feel which is a little funny is a minor 1-2 second delay for the what feels like the power steering to kick in when starting the car and starting to turn the tires. Feels like the front tires are flat, but then a second or two after the first turn is initiated, it's fine.

Although, I don't always get up to 55-60 in my neighborhood...Strike that.

When I leave work, I hop right on the highway and I've never noticed this, so I guess although I hear about it all the time on this board, I'm in luck (for now).

SO GLAD YOU POSTED THIS!! Mine been sitting in the garage for almost 2 weeks.....don't ask.

Anyway, took it out yesterday and thought something was wrong. Passenger seat was shaking......flat spot it is then on the PS2's.

The 55's seem to have a trouble spot @55-60 so when you get on the interstate if you drive right through that trouble spot to 70 + you may never notice it. Also if the interstate is more than a quater mile away the tires may have already smoothed by the time you get there.

If you're only getting this after a 2 week sit or no shimmy in the steering wheel from sitting overnight you are doing great!

The car can stay at 55-60? No one told me that.

It's definitely more like 3/4 mile from my office, so maybe my spots are gone by the time I get on the road. Plus, it's during the day and not overnight, so I'm not sure if it sits long enough (or it's cold enough).

I guess I'll have to do 55 in my parking lot to test it out!

You are correct my car does the same thing with the 20 inch wheels. Once the tires warm up, smooth as silk. My car pretty much sits during the week. I have 245/30's and 285/25 conti's because mich does not make a 285/25 tire. I'm limited to pirrelli or conti's.

Mine does exactly the same thing......shimmy at 55-60 and the steering wheel vibrates back and forth. Today I was looking at the steering wheel shaking and talking myself into taking it into the dealer and then it stopped. Not faded away but just immediately the steering wheel stopped shaking. It was as if I flipped a switch. That makes me wonder if it's the tires or possibly the steering itself or a dampner? If the tires had flat spots they would round out gradually, not in an instant as I witnessed today.

For some reason the W211 and especially the 55's have very sensitive front suspensions/steering. My dealer did tighten the rack up a bit but it did nothing. I think it's a combo between the temp flat spots and the sensitive susp&str.

Another thing to consider is the locale of where you live. Florida gets pretty warm right about now, doesn't it? I assume the garage would get even hotter, and the garage floor would do the same too. And I'm sure you already know this but the PS2 are a pretty soft tire (I have them mounted on a 996T, and get flat spots overnight after hard driving). Add that to the mix of possible problems.
