I give it about three more posts till the twisties. I love how they're already saying the E55 was "chipped." I respect the guy for admitting his loss but it seems like the other members are having a little trouble sucking it up...

Everytime there is a E55 story about the E55 winning, they assume we must be modded. I drove an new M5 for about 10 miles the other weekend, and it is slower than the E55, at least below 80 mph. It does handle better than our cars, and BMW's version of active seats are great.

Hahaha. right on bro, it`s all about the "twisties"!!! Nag ,nag, nag "wait until the twisties". Yawn. They are both great cars and the more experienced driver in either of them can whip 95% of the driving population.

I give the guy credit for posting that. It never feels good to lose a race, especially if you have spent a lot of money, have a state of the art vehicle and have seen videos of a M5 walking the E55.
Lets face it, 95% of street encounters are short runs, under 120mph and in a straight line. Unfortunately, the M5 has an inherent disadvantage in these impromptu races against the E55.
Last time I was at the 1/4 track I met a great guy who had a beautiful new black M5. I asked him about running our cars against each other (I had a video camera to record the action). He politely declined, he stated he also has an E55 (stock) and he already new the outcome.

2 things posted over there.. that were really funny...
after 5k miles the M5 will have more power??
and
above 70mph, the M5 would of pulled on the E55?? We all know that after 110 to 120 the M5 will outperform a stock e55
if this guy had a pulley and chip.. the M5 would need atleast enough room to reach 125 to 135 to catch up.
I do agree in 1 point.. the additional passenger does hurt.. but not 3 car lenghts.
either way the M5 is fine handling machine and the E55 is a powerhouse beast. Can't wait to read the same thread against a E63.

Good story, at least he printed it. Other than calling the E a POS, he was cool about it.
Gustav is an idiot if he thinks the faster shift would have mattered. Heck, even in S5 it still shifted faster than our MB. I take that back about Gustav. Regardless of what he thinks, he's still an idiot.
One question, in the beginning he said the E was on his *****. What is the 5 letter word for a**, butt, tail, bumper?

Tuned E55 should kill an M5 all the way to 185mph

Gustav is a lyin POS, He staged those early videos only in a scenario that showed the M5's superior "Top End". He obviously knew that he would have had his **** handed to him if he would have tried a "Hole Shot" with an E55 even with Launch Control.

1/4 time for the M5 I think is 12.6? Best I ever got with it, without LC, was 12.8.

20+ to list......
I wonder what those guys would say about the E63s if the 55s are walking on them all the time? M5s are great cars, exceptional handling with loads of power, but I think the E's acheive the best in both worlds department.

My impression of driving an M5…
Interesting this thread came up now. I drove a bone stock 2006 M5 last week & yes I was impressed. Yes it was fast, but in my opinion not as quick as a stock E55. The E55 as we all know is “in the seat of your pants” fast. The M5 did not have the grunt we get to experience. It was a more gradual acceleration. But again, in my opinion, once up to speed (and revs) maybe 110 to 140 (mph) I think it pulled a bit stronger. And if I may, the M5 seemed to handle the on/off ramps with a bit more ease (very solid & tight feel). But, and a big but, the car is “FUGLY” the thing is not very good looking. Yes the BMW has the cool factor as does the Mercedes Benz but the MB is much nicer to look at inside & out. Sitting in the BMW to me was like being in an old Dodge or something, not much design, very sparse. Oh, buy the way the SMG was great, the BMW shifts awesome. Anyway I guess I’ll shut-up now.

yes. let's all eagerly await the "wait for the twities" post...was a m5 w/ Dinan tune driver before I came home to MBZ/E55-thanks all for leaving the lights on. "twisties" post-the only ones that matter, in this case, may be found at Dominos. make it a large (E60) with a medium "charge" per se.

E55 feels faster, and IS a tad faster under 100 than the E60 M5.
but over 120, the M5 will fly.
