Motortrend. p. 92 Aug issue. 13.2@108.5. 0-60 in 4.7 sec.... WTF. I know it weighs 5013lbs but come on...didn't the outgoing one at least run 12.5@114 in the mags?

............tell this to M5Rus. Newer is not always faster. I am not really suprised about this. With the newer car being much heavier and the engine unchanged, a slower acceleration time is not far fetched. I think this makes the 03 S600 an incredible deal at $50K. add an additional $6K for Renntech ECU and you have a mid 11's second sedan all day for less than $60K. The claim that the new S600 makes 510HP and 612LbFt of torque is probably marketting Bs since we all know that the engine was carried over without modification. If they modified the Ecu for more power ala Renntech, then it means a buyer has no further options for power increase. Wait a minute, go grab a W220 S600 while you can before Mb issues a recall and implants a secret program to make it slower than the W211. This also means that the new S65 is probably significantly slower than the W220 S65. When MB went from the old S-class to the W220 S-class, they signaled that they wanted make their cars less bulky and more nimble. With the W2221, they forgot that pledge. The W221 does look better in person, but if Mb wanted to build bulky sedans it need not have changed the pre-1999 S-class.

Makes sense. I do recall MBenz signaling to the market in a recent press release or something along the lines that they intended to make luxo comfort cars...perhaps a weak signal that the HP wars with BMW may have peaked? Or should we expect 600-700hp sedan's in the 2010 timeframe.

I didn't realize the W220's were only 50K today. What a freakin steal.

whats up with this E55 800 Torque????

Are those the numbers Kleeman claims?

Sounds a bit extreme, but my butt dyno is all out of whack right now.

Who cares about the S600? The most disturbing news in this issue of Motor Trend is found on page 160 and article "(newcomers) mercedes-benz e-class" concerning the E63 AMG:

"Acceleration in the E550 is brisk and smooth; in the E63, it's exhilarating, though it doesn't shove one into the seat like the supercharged AMG's do."

Way overblown here, you guys have to remember that MT usually gets slower accleration numbers than others. They got a slower time for the S550 also, more than 5.4 secs MB gives. Car and Driver on the other hand matched the 0-60 times of the old S600 with the new S600 and they exceeded the 0-60 times for the S550 compared to what MB gives. MT times are slow for both the Bentley and the S600, compared to other magazines. You know Mercedes isn't going to make the new S600 slower than the old one.
