A custom manufacture of the item was going to be necessary.

I talked to the owner of "Sky Jacker" who lives in the neighborhood and he said if there was enough interest he might be able to do the engineering of the parts. They normally make lift kits for monster trucks but could do any parts I want.

If you all get to a dead end let me know and I'll follow up on this lead.
I am not being rude, but note that I am not asking for these items. I know they are not out. I am offering them to MBWORLD members as a group buy. Remember we only get one round and they go to the manufacturer / tuner after.

I assume it will take a few trips, so between your car and mine it should be a good deal. Also, it will be nice to check the fascilities out.

If you want sway bars then persumably these customers are going to open track events. You know what they would also value? A nice set of cold air ducts to the front brakes. On the track as we all know (or should know by now) the weak link of the car is cooling to the front brakes. My home made models from Ace hardware store allow for 2-3x more laps without the brale idiot light coming on. Proper made brake ducts that funnel air to the back of the caliper would increase this even more.

What do you say about taking the existing heat shields on the back of the front rotors off, fixing a brake duct hose assembly and making them available?

Keep reminding me and maybe I can get that project up, too. Lets do this a step at a time, since I have to deal with different vendors and tuners for each. This sway bar project is set to go and should be easy enough to let me know if I want to get involved in any others.

It would be much fatser if the vendor was in San Diego, but oh well. I have to either find an E55 to drop by their facility or find time off work to do it myself. I am also sure that it will take a few trips up there before they are totally comfy with their program. Then we can have various sizes built and tested to find an optimal thickness.

I would be all over that. Let's take it to another thread.

Jangy:

Thanks for the response. I would be very interested in having an adjustable bar- it allows for fine-tuning your own setup, depending on your rims/tires, ride height, etc.

Here's an example from Stillen:

http://www.stillen.com/product_detail.aspx?sku=304350

It allows adjustment from 7-70% over stock. A similar mounting system which allows the end links to be placed closer or further away from the mounting point (stiffer/closer-looser/further) would be nice.

I will ask. I do not see where that would add much cost, if any. We may need to do the initial round just to get the template set. They basically need to know where and how much bend is needed to clear things under the car. Once it is done, then they can program to make any combination we need.

Keep the requests for specs coming on this thread. i will soon start a new thread, once I a have more details so that we can get a true count to see if we can get a group buy price. If not, then I can just tell you guys who has them and you can try to haggle on your own.

Sorry Jang, I applaud your efforts to get this project done.

I was just trying to let you know about previous discussions and attempts at improving the sway bars.

I am very interested in replacement if the price is right and it is not too aggressive. Two terrrible riding cars are enough.

With the amount of time my car spends on the circuit track, I am very interested too. A good sway bar combination should not affect ride comfort but it will stop body roll and improve turn-in dramatically. That is why they need to test various thicknesses and points of atachment to work out the optimal leverage. It's a fine line between over and under-steer too.
Adjustable bars are a must! There is no point spending all that money installing a new bar if you cannot "fiddle" with it later, in the privacy of your own garage!
It only makes me wonder: if it is only a matter of trying a few different bars for size, why didn't AMG do it, or have they already selected the best compromise?

AMG doesn't exactly factor turn in into the equation. they care about sales. It really comes down to what is the LEAST performance they can put in to keep us buying and NOT lose all the normal people that just buy it for the AMG sign.

Hey, no biggie. You can count on two things.

1st, it will be fairly priced, or at least the group buy rate will be (I will not be involved after that). I have been assured of that, since it is an issue and I do know the costs involved.

2nd, it will be of added value and not just for show or it won't happen.

As far as the harsh ride, no way. My ride is a benz and will stay that way. Looks like consensus has us at adjustable, anyway.

It can be whenever. Word is they will drop everything and make themselves available to the E55. All they want to do first is take a look before they commit. if it is a tit job, they may take off each bar and make a quick knock off. if not, then we negotiate. Bad comes to worse, we send them some OEM ones.

You have a free day coming up? I've been putting in 12 hour weekdays, so I may need to make it a weekend (if they are even open).

I'll pm you when I know.

Still amazed that no LA based E55s have offerred to let em size up their car for a FREE set. LOL.

Proves a point I made here many times: E55 owners in LA only race in a straight line, so they have no use for those annoying twisted bits of steel under the car...

If you only lived in Southern California I would make you retract said statement there Rafal

Peak days i used to go through a set of pads, rotors, and tires in 8-10k miles (fronts tires first always) and that was without ever setting foot on a track. At the track? Im lucky to get home on 1 set of tires!

Im just not always the first to jump at my car being taken apart. It has enough issues without any tinkering!

No no Jangy is kind of in Southern California (just 2 hrs moure southern than I) so he is the official "mad racer." I am just the racer. No one can get near Jangies level of madness.... I dare not try!!!! It just ends up hurting way to much.....

So that bring the count to 2 racers in so-cal.... yep thats about it!

But of course all you Ausies are all running your E55's backwards around your local road courses all day long! I've seen enough Ausie drag races to get the vibe that you have quite a bit of drag queens down there too!

Keep it real... Race that E55 and scare the pants off unsuspecting little cars.

We also drive upside down, but that's what the rear deck spoilers are for...all that downforce keeps us glued to the road !
