Does the 2006 clutch pack do anything else besides fix the "chirp"?

Yeah.. Smoother engagement/disengagement. Its not as harsh.

Mine is very quiet now.. cant even hear it engage anymore. Although, I am hoping this wont revert back to something worse once some miles get put on the new clutch pack... We'll see..

So far so good...

Whats the chirp? Is it when the car goes from first to second gear?

It is when the supercharger clutch engages and disengages. You can hear it mainly if you are rolling at low speed and just play with the gas enough to get the SC to kick on and off.

Say that you are losing power and believe it to be the SC and ask for a boost check. It can be downloaded easily from the car, and then you will know if it matters.
My '05 did it pretty bad, but I did not mind once I knew it did not affect performance. These are not the quietest cars.
If however, your belt or clutch are slipping, then you will be losing boost (and response), which does matter.

I tried with my Dealer. When they checked the car the said all was normal and wouldn't do it. They told Mercedes told them that the customers will just have to live with it and that it was the nature of the beast.

Do a search - multiple solutions for the chirp. Personally I used the valve grinding compund with great results.

Bring it to me and I will fix it in less than 5 minutes without a new clutch.

To use the valve grinding compound you get the fine compound. Pop off the plastic cover over the supercharger and you will see the clutch. Coat a very fine feeler gage with some of the compound and wipe into the gap, Turn the clutch a quarter turn and repeat times three.

I asked my MB mechanic about this before I did it and he said it absolutely would not cause any issues with clutch engagement - it's magnetic. I did this several thousand miles ago and it's still quiet.

Did you ask if it would harm the clutch facing ? This thread has me wondering if this area can be part of the slippage problem being addressed with an additional idler pulley . If it is badly glazed there may be some loss of hold ?

I have an 06, but didn't hear any chiping, just the nice supercharger goes into boost whine.

That's because the 2006 clutch pack resolves the problem. That's what I had them install in mine.

The only thing that concerns me is that when there is a chirp, there is friction, and where there is friction, there's wear...

Valve grinding compound will not harm the clutch face - it simply knocks the glazing off the face and provides smoother engagement. The strenght of the clutch is magnetic - not friction based.

sorry i know nothing of valve grinding compound, but this sounds like something id like to try. So do i just get hold of "any" fine valve grinding compound?!

sounds like a cheap and easy fix! how many others have had success with this? and have any had the process not work?

cheers
