new car purchase dilemma

i am deciding whether a 03 e55 or 05 545 both used however, the milegae on e55 is a bit high ( around 40k) since i am consdiering dirvinig this car for at least 5 years or so and the 545 has (1.5k) but it's an amg compare to regular5 sereis so i am really leaning toward the 55 right now it's just the mileage that's bothering me. is e55 becomeing more problematic at high mileage and which one will u guys pick help appreciated.

SL55 AMG Black on Berry Red
you're basically comparing a brand new 545 to a 40K mile E55 (almost out of warranty). first of all, the E55 will be a lot faster in a straight line (although the 545 is no slouch either...0-60 in low 5's). but, if you're going to own this car for at least 5 years, you figure you're gonna have to drive the E55 into 6-digit mileage. i don't know how many people on this board have that many miles on their AMG, so i can't attest to the long term durability of the car. but it's safe to say the cost of ownership over the next 5+ years of the 545 will be significantly cheaper than the E55 because you will have warranty on the BMW, you will have free maintenance, and being a newer car, it will have less problems.

overall, the prudent decision would be the 545, although the more passionate decision would be the E55. the E55 would be a hell of a lot more fun to own IMO, so just weigh your options.

I had a loaded 2005 545i....... no comparison between it and the E55.... the interior of the 545 is terrible, iDrive would crash on me, and the car was slow.... go for the E55..... I don't miss my 545 at all.....

Guess it doesn't lives up to the hype of the "ultimate driving machine" for you.

there are a lot of cars out there...don't close your vision to only those two....a five year car should put a smile on your face everytime u sit in it for at least four years then u can dump it in the fifth.... i say keep looking for a low milage amg you will be happier than a new or slightly used bmw 545.... i love my amg

I think you can find a low mileage one, too.

My suggestion would be to get a Certified Pre-Owned '04 E55. I would personally only get an '03 if I were planning on heavy mods anyway. The '04 has the most features (of all), since some were added, then others deleted subsequently. Also, at least the MAJOR bugs were worked out by then.

Warranty, at least on the drivetrain, is almost a necessity in either car if you want it as a "car". A toy is different.

Good luck. How does book value on the two compare? Is an '04 E55 even near the same price as an '05 545i?

E55 all the way. Hate the new 500 series. What I would probably do if I were you is get an older M5 (I love the design of the last gen BMW 500 series), pocket the 20-25k you would be saving and get the e63 TT when it comes out.

A member just sold his for $56K with 27K miles on it. So, it can be done. He sold his for a high price also, not at wholesale.

Any real data on the E63TT as an '08 model? I just don't see the S/CL not getting it first. Let us be real, and look at past MB marketing. The new engine would be released as an '09 model that way, when the new E is introduced, no?? Not arguing, just would like verification as a TT would be something for me to plan on.
