SELLING the BEAST - BABY on the way!

Hi all,

It looks like I might be departing with my 2004 E55, after a wonderful 18 months of ownership! With a new daughter on the way (due at the end of October), I'm thinking that an SUV might be more suitable.

Here are the details on the BEAST:

2004 E55
OPTIONS include:
Keyless Go
Navigation System
Auto Trunk Open/Close system
Factory 6CD Changer
Heated Seats
Sunroof

Exterior Color: Black
Interior Color: Black
Wood: Bird-Eye Maple (Black)
WHEELS: 20" 542r (HRE's) (Black and with Chrome lip).
TIRES: Conti Sportcontact2 (245/35 ft and 275/30 rear).
Awesome Wood/Leather Steering Wheel (It cost me $1,300).
AMG Pedals
K&N Air Filters
Bird-Eye Maple Wood color Center Console cover
WARRANTY GOOD UNTIL February 2009/100,000 miles.
Car is lowered about 1" via Star Diagnostics.

NOTE: Pics were taken prior to it being lowered, so it looks EVEN better now. Also, I removed the wing as I was planning on buying the wing that is on the current E63. Looks better IMHO.

Thanks Jody. I must say your ride looks beautiful, especially with that gorgeous wing! Nicely done.

I'm not sure what is next, but the ML63 has run across my mind on more than one occasion...We'll see what the wifey has to say (lol).

First off congratulations!! Second, why do you have to sell the car? I'm always confused that people think they need to run out and buy an SUV when they have a kid. I can see if you had a couple of kids. There's probably as much room in your 55 as there is in many SUV's. Especially with a newborn - they're not their big LOL. You'll also be able to fit all the baby crap in the trunk. My sister in law has twins and has a Caddy STS. As soon as she got pregnant, right away she had to have the biggest, most expensive SUV she could find (but that's just the way she is). She still has the Caddy 3 years later and has no problems transporting the kids and their stuff.

congrats again!

Having a baby on the way was my reason for choosing the E55. The E55 is still just as roomy and spacious as most SUV's. I can fit a stroller and golf clubs in the trunk, when I need to. My wife's Touareg is no more convenient than my E55 when it comes to comfort and space. If it's a money concern, then I understand, but if you're looking at ML63 (which runs close to $100k) as a consideration, I don't really see the point.

For sure, keep the car. I know this from first hand experience. You won't need an SUV until the young one is at least 4-6 years old. By then you'll be tired of the beast, and gas will be so high, you'll be able to buy a really nice land barge SUV for 40 cents on the dollar. In the meantime the kid gets to ride in the best.

Don't do it. Keep the Beast.

To help with your sale since everyone loves the stock look I think you should slap my stock wheels on your car and trade me the HRE's.

Good luck with the sale. Your car is beautiful. Just don't go Exxcalade.

I love how you guys are pushing him to keep the "Rocket", but I'm sure that the reason is more wifey than husband. I can hear her now, "Its too fast", "You're not driving around my child in that thing", "What if you get into an accident?". Women want 4wd and fat slab sides because it gives them the illusion of safety, when in reality a W211 can probably take a hit better than an ML, and is less likely to be in an accident because you have the power and the reaction time to get out of a messy situation.

I don't know how many kids you have ... but if its the first or even the 2nd you won't need a SUV.

I have 2 kids and the E55 is fine.Of course if you have 3 kids ... then a 7 seater is the way to go. More GL than M.

You guys are the best! I love it. Spoken like TRUE E55 OWNERS! Believe me, I love the Beast, and do not want to depart with her. I appreciate all of you sharing your own experiences, and take comfort in hearing that the BEAST can accomodate the baby just as good as an SUV.

Afterall, it is a 4 door, and already has built in child seat hardware, right?? Also, with all of the airbags, it is extra safe. And as an added bonus, the 500hp will allow me to get out of trouble, if I find myself in a tight spot. Seems like we are all convinced..........

The only question is, will the WIFE buy it? (LOL)

I don't think i'll buy an SUV for a long, long time, and even then, nothing bigger than a Cayenne or X5. Seen too many roll-overs. Your kid is safer in the E55. Also, the Mercedes child seats disable the passenger airbags, so yor kid can ride in the front with you eventually.

Just tell her exactly what you've just said:

If those are not reason enough to keep your E55...good luck with your new SUV.

I was in the same position 2 years ago except I had a very rare 94 3.6 turbo A car I told myself I would never sell. That was until our 3rd visit to the doctor and he says "guess what guys?? You are having twins!!" After waking up on the doctors floor from smelling salts, the wife says "the Pcar is gone!" So the compromise was for me to find a car that could fit 2 baby seats comfortably, was safe and could fit a double stroller in the trunk. The rest was history! I left the house on a Friday night and brought home the BEAST! She loved it until she saw the Pcar sitting next to it. Long story short sold the Pcar and never looked back. The 55 does it all! Grocery getter, twin taxi, family car and of course throws down at the drop of a light and bruises many of egos!!!

My wife is also pregnant and due around November 1st. I have an SL600 and my wife knew better then to even consider asking me to get rid of it. What does your wife drive? Do you only have one car in the family? Get her an SUV and keep the 55. It is beautiful and can easily accomidate a baby. I could somewhat understand if you had an SL but an E55? Grow some cahonies and tell your wife the car stays!!!!! (but don't let her know I told you so)

Show her this thread! LOL! It really makes no sense and I was guilty of doing the same thing. I remember 12 years ago when my daughter was born we thought we had to have an SUV. Got a Jeep cherokee limited and I cursed everytime I opened the rear hatch. That thing was so small it wasn't even funny.

Don't laugh at the speed/safety thing. It is real. I remember when I had my E55 and let my wife drive it (didn't happen often!) she would comment on how much safer she felt merging into traffic, getting away from someone etc. She would always have to re-acclimate herself to her car afterwards. C'mon, this should be an easy sell!!! Now, if you were trying to get a TT or something, I could see you having trouble. Not this.

Just tell her you refuse to put her and your child at risk in an inferior less safe car. You're only thinking of her and the baby! The E55 means nothing to you. God, I'm going to hell.

Now that's different - you're screwed. Although, I see plenty of guys on the p-car forums with car seats and little ones. I think I'd even have to give up on that one LOL
