Clueless vettes....

I'm leaving my friends house after our FF draft and his neighbor is outside working on a C5 vette..... I asked him, jokingly if he want's to against this 4 door (my renntech E55), and he laughs and said I have no chance at all, and they he beats the bigger V12 supercharged S55's all the time.....

I told him that the S55 isn't a v12, and that my car is quicker, and he said that the S55 is 3x faster than my E55, and he beats those, so I have no chance.....

I told him the S600 and S65 have the V12's, and he said yea, those, I beat the S65's all the time..... I'm like really, you come across S65's that want to run you ALL the time?? There are probably only a couple even down here!

I asked if he had a supercharger or nitrous and he said no, just exhaust and intake..... he then said forget those german cars, you have to buy American.... I said, ok, I'll go get my Viper, and we'll run.... again, he says I have no chance in the Viper either....

too bad it was wet outside, I would have run him right there.... I would love to hear the excuses before or afterwards....

Funny you posted this. The dipsh*t at the sullivan tire here claims his 1980 crossfire vette would whoop my S/C C43 by car lengths. I'm making twice the HP as that old thing dose.

If anyone knows about the crossfire vettes you'll know they make about 225hp I think.....by now being a high milage POS he might be putting down 200hp. I kept telling him this but he kept insisting that "it's fuel injected" over and over as if that means something. I put it on the line but he obviously wouldn't race me. According to him I would be embarrased.

Once again, now idea. At least we learn about our cars capability......

SL 65 AMG and E63s AMG
My friend with a 996 911 TT X50 was clueless until he saw my rear end 3 times to 80mph. He's now trading his BMW 750 on an E63 when his lease is up.

I'm not sure I would have believed it either til I drove it. Truely an amazing beast. My other car (Vette) has 400+HP NA/ 550 with nitrous and it still breaths hard to keep up.

C'mon Fikse, all Corvette owners aren't idiots. Some of us wouldn't have any trouble working a heavily modded E, either

The guy you encountered was just a choad, no matter what car he was driving.

Too bad Ernesto is breathing down our necks and Moroso will probably be closed untill the storm passes. Otherwise I would have been tempted to have said for Mr. 'Vette to bring $500 Wednesday night to the track and put his money where his mouth is.I never will forget the night that I spanked a C5 real bad with my bone stock BMW 540/6 speed...he was in total shock and my 540 would probably trail you by about 2~3 lengths in a 1/4 mile on it's best day.

of course, this guy had two vettes outside his house, so I was referring to him and his cars....

I could have told this guy I had a top fuel dragster at home, and he would still say I had no chance....

C-5 owners

My neighbor is a great guy. He has a C-5. Cold air intake , west coast long tube headers. , no Cats ,X pipe , Corsa Mufflers. Breathless dyno tune LS-1 edit . Sounds really mean!! All kinds of I'll eat you alive and spit you out !!talk. So I took him for a short sprint in the CLK. He hasn't said Jack SH--T. Since then. He has a all new respect. Quote : I cann't believe this car is so Quiet and Gets it done with no Fuss. DO NOT TAKE MY WIFE FOR A RIDE. Now he wants to do the whole top end of his motor, But don't say anything ??. I've prodded him to come to the track in West Palm. He thinks he needs a driver!! He's cool and a great neighbor ___PTE___

That's funny, he probably isn't a car guy and doesn't know too much.

A 540 bimmer can really beat a c5? I know they are fast but that's pretty good!

My biggest concern about guys like this is that they don't realize guys like me have "forgetten GM to go with AMG". I've forgotten more performance GM cars that I've owned than most people have ever owned.

Beyond the distinct possibility that by weight our AMG's may be "more American" than a C5, my biggest gripe is that GM's powertrain engineers just don't get it. But GM keeps getting away with this stuff because some GM buyers think 400 HP is bragging rights. The new Z06 has basically "caught up" to where we have been at for going on 4 years (actually more ... come to think of it, your Viper platform has been at 500 hp for 10 years??).

Probably not worth trying to educate the guy ... I'm confident that you could beat the guy in either your Viper or your E55. I'm guessing it wasn't a Z06, so I can also confidently say that even if the guy had NOS, forced induction mods, or a stroker kit he still couldn't beat you in a street race. Those of us who have had C5 Corvettes and have had AMG's know what the strengths are of both.

true, mine is a 1996 GTS, with headers and catback, and ran 11.62 @ 120.8 MPH.... yep, 10 years old but still quick... he had a regular C5, 350HP, with exhaust work and intake.... he also had a C6 there.... I have raced 3-4 C6 corvettes at the drag strip with the E55 and beat them everytime, when I was stock....

I ran a C6 corvette that had headers/exhaust/intake and beat him easily in the Viper at the track...... then he sprayed me with a 150 shot and beat me good...

the new Z06 is awesome.... I was considering one, but want to see what Dodge will do with the 2008 Viper Coupe..... If it's 600+ HP, I'm in....

What do you know about the early (03-05)SRT-10 Viper droptops, Fikse? Since I sold my SL500, I have been regretting the lack of a convertible in the garage. I was thinking of picking up a Viper convertible.

I probably would not mod it much, just a few bolt ons and a little spray (have to stay ahead of those damn C6 Z06s ).

Just to keep the stereotype alive - was out today and some choad in a new Z06 was parked across 2 parking spaces about 10 parking spaces from the front of an outdoor mall.

I've driven a few, nice fast convertible.... resale value hasn't been that great on the SRT converts, so you can probably get one for a bargain.... personally, if I was getting a convertible, the SL550 or SL55 would be my pick.... more $$ though....

i think, that a stock w211 E55 would probably beat a C6 (for sure a C5) but the C6 Z06, no way. Both have the same hp, but the Vette weighs less... for only that reason.
Now, try to race me...and i'll whip the crap outta any benz. even the new SLR 722! And im all motor too, no spray or FI. But someone up top said it best, gets all the performance done without giving up comfort luxury and the excessive noise! what more can you want!!!

That's exactly what I was thinking. It wouldn't be a daily driver, just something fun to cruise in.

I just sold an SL500. Maybe I'll look at a used SL600. That TTV12 seems to respond to mods

Your engine compartment is ridiculously clean for a modified car. Damn.

I've raced a few C6's, no question the E55 is quicker..... of course it won't beat the new Z06.......

what does your 500 rwhp corvette run in 1/4 mile, ET and trap speed? never say never, there is always someone quicker..... even a Benz....

my car actually dynoed 524rwhp and 494rwtq, BUT.. (LOL, theres always a "but") the torque converter does not lock (even upon command) and my dual cutouts were not open. cutouts open, i made 40 more rwhp but lost 40 rwtq...
if the converter would lock and it wasn't 90* outside, i would assume a lil more hp.
In the 1/4, i ran 11.03 @ 123. this was a nice 70* on drag radials. Also, it was on my old setup which made about 490rwhp.

I have a 427 C5R block, FAST 90 with Nick Williams 90mm. Exhaust is 1 7/8" headers, full 3", no cats, dual dumps. internals is all forged and blah blah...
i actually blew the oil ring and head gasket, so i will be pulling it to refresh this weekend (which is why i bought the E55 now to be a DD). I am yet debating on boring it out to a 447ci..but we'll see...

Newton, whats that bad boy puttin down??? i love that Z, thats what color i wanted, but ended up buying this one. also, im assuming ur on CF.com... my name is the same on there... see ya around!
