My point was that if they tested both and found the E63 to be faster most of the time, nearly all of the time except for a few exceptions then why would they say anything other than the E63 was faster?

Looks like MBUSA will post some comparisons on the AMG private lounge site.

Here are excerpts from MBUSA response

"Like you, we were also interested in head-to-head comparisons of the cars,
both under acceleration, as well as on the track where other performance
characteristics (braking, handling, lateral acceleration) could be
compared.

Basically, the E63 AMG is a much smoother and more linear performer,. For
acceleration, this means that the 0-60 mph times are more consistent and
easily achieved, whereas with the E55 AMG Kompressor, the torque being
available at a much lower engine speed, frequently causing wheelspin (and
ESP / ASR actuation) under hard acceleration. Our tests yielded more
consistent results for the E63 AMG, although in some cases the E55 AMG
delivered a lower elapsed time at the dragstrip.

On the road course racing track we used, the advantage of the E63 AMG was
much greater. On the same day under identical conditions, out pro driver
lapped the 1.48 mile track at 3-4 seconds quicker in the E63 AMG
consistently. This can be attributed to the superior compound brakes,
revised suspension, 7 speed AMG Speedshift automatic with shift paddles as
well as the lower weight of the engine (-47 lb) over the front axle.
Further, our drivers found the E63 AMG much smoother, more progressive and
easier to drive fast.

We plan to show information and other cool stuff from our testing on
Mercedes-amg.com/privatelounge very soon so that you can see the E63 AMG
results for yourself."

Put my E63 order on hold pending release of comparison data.
I guess that's great if we typically track our 4000lb 4-door sedan.

it's pr spin, pure and simple. what they were really implying is that the e55 is faster except when our driver spins the tires or if we run back-to-back and heat soak it (ie; less consistent). either way, what they're now saying is far from ALL the initial press releases about the 63 being faster in every category.

I personally think the whole issue about the 63 has been blown way overboard. I'll be glad when everyone here gets to race their cars and move on. I still don't see anything they've said other than in same instances the 55 was faster, it isn't as if the 63 can't post better numbers, it can, but not always is the way I read that.

I hear you...

but 2 additional gears would do wonders.

in any rate... E55 with K2+ is just the best set up out there.. except for 65TT's with tuning

After you pick up the 7G trans you've spread all over the road and someone figures out how to keep it together with that power, you're out even more.
i agree... we are not talking about a kompressor that puts out 120hp+

You would pay 15k for that kinda out put. (dollars per hp)

E63 just needs torque and down low. It has the gears and the top end.

So figure is somebody designs a unit to give you 70hp and 60lbs more where you really need them. Of course price per HP will decrease since and they won't be able to fetch 15k for that set up.

The price of the actual Supercharger is not that much. Most other companies offer great superchargers from $4 to $6k. However since we are talking about Benz and AMG, we are hit with a 50% mark up on all our products.

example:

pullies
Ecu
headers
kompressors (for NA cars)
throttle bodies
cams

ect.

It is just food for thought and just my personal opinion.

The CL600 is very mean with ECU tuning too; in fact, I'd say it was a much better set-up than the 65 with tuning. You are already saving $50,000+ on the price of admission. Besides, there's not much difference in the power of a 65 Renntech/Kleeman and a 600 Renntech/Kleeman. Don't get me wrong. The 65 is still king.
