sounds like the writers already had a winner in mind before they even test drove the others...
I cant believe they thought the M5 was nicer looking than the e63 amg. That bangle design is bar far not the prettiest and its the least distinguishable of the 3 when compared to the looks of the regular series car.
I mean they said it themselves it was the best car of the bunch in terms of luxury and comfort, I dont know to many people who would by a car that wasnt luxurious or comfortable. I think those points where overlooked in their decision.

I don't care what they say the new M5 is the ugliest M5 in the history of BMW. You can have it. In my book if to cost 90K plus it not only has to go well, but look good. The E63 is the answer for me when my E55 gets too old.

I really think you guys need to spend some time around it to make that assessment. Every AMG guy who's seen mine in person has been very impressed.

I guess its what you like in a car...to me the M5 is a very beautiful car.It looks like its on steroid. It look more like a muscle car than the E63.But there again, thats only my openion.Comparing both cars i would say that BMW is a drivers cars, whilst MB is a riders car.
Over the years both companies have bridge the gap,and is much closer in ride, drive and overhall performance.
BMW has up the ante,by showing MB that they can achive 500hp from a normal aspirated engine.MB has thrown down their gauntlet,by showing that they also can build a na moter in excess of 500hp that handles also.
Both cars are great looking cars.....its left up to the individual as to which make or shape he or she likes.

I actually like the looks of the E60 M5. I don't like the 7 series at all though & the new 3 looks like a smaller, cheaper 5 series.
I had an M5 driving next to me the other day in traffic & it's definitely a good looking ride. I did notice that it was slightly higher than my E55.

2000 W210 E55->2003 R230 SL500->2004 W211 E55->2007 997TT+2007 E63->2010 GLK350->2012 E550 4matic
I can't stand the headlights of the M5. When my slot came in last summer, I couldn't pull the trigger and picked up a face-lifted 7 instead! Not needing two sedans, sold the E55 and picked up the 997TT.
The AMG E looks better than the fussy M5 anyday in my opinion.

from reading the article, if you were to not read the conclusion "the BMW is the best car" youd think the merc would have taken that title...
it all depends where your priorities lie! i mean for me, stuff having a transmission thats jerky around town at slow speeds and only shines when your on the gas and pushing hard! I like being able to throw a mulitpoint turn with complete ease and tranny smoothness! And for most owners if i were to assume use these super saloons for the daily commute, the SMG would be a big turn off come time to choose. They say the BMW's the best "car" but i think thats kind of stupid seeing as they love praising the mercs boot space, comfort and ease of driving quickly! for track X M5 may be better, but for daily driving, the wife, plus the odd track day i know which would be the best car!
im not against the m5 at all, i love it and did consider it, but to me a supersaloon should be as smooth and comfy as it is fast, and an unsmooth tranny just puts me off. hell if i could have the 55 and the M5 for weekends i would!
oh and how could they question the looks of an E63 wagon?!!? Just take a look at Korn55's black e55 wagon. theres no way the amg wagon will not be hot!

I've seen in person and raced an M5 (thanks to a member on this board). While a nice car, that looks better in person than in pictures, it's not a car I would call attractive. I don't like the power delivery for an uber-sedan, either.

2005 BMW M3
I am a huge fan of BMW ///M cars, but I must say I dislike the way BMW and Chris Bangle decided to go with the new styling. I’ve already decided I’m going to be purchasing an E63 instead of the famed M5. With that said… Give me an E39 M5 with the E60 engine and trans and it's back to BMW I go.
But… That article that was posted was only one… Automobile Magazine also tested all three super sedans and the infamous M5 was dethroned. Not just by the E63 but also the S6. That’s correct ladies and gent the M5 came in dead last. And the E63 came out to be the new KING…
