Bridgestone Potenza RE050A and S-03 tires?
What are your thoughts/experiences on these tires?
I currently run PS2's.
What are your real world experiences on the differences between the 3?

I just replaced the stock Conti 2s on my car after a staggering 9500 miles (the rears were bald). I strongly considered the RE050As but in the end I chose the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 and am very pleased. They're a quiet riding tire and have a stiff sidewall so they're great in the corners and it's been raining here in Dallas all weekend and the wet traction is amazing not to mention dry traction. I give the Goodyears 2 thumbs up.

PS2's are the best all around tire for the E55. A very close 2nd is the Eagle F1 GS-D3 that BFNNRGN mentioned. The Eagle F1 is only 2nd because over time the tire develops higher (noticably) road noise due to it aggressive tread design (which is also it's strong point...go figure).
Don't waste your time on the RE050A's and I didn't think you could even get the S-03's any longer. Must be old stock since Bridgestone discontinued them in favor of the RE050A Pole Position tires.
Stick with PS2's or F1's.
Take care.

That's why the S-03's are only $195 (275/30/19) on Tirerack.
Forgot to include: tires will be for an E500, daily driver (no tracking or dragging)
Thanks

TBone,
Ah...thanks for sharing that tid bit. Save your cash and go for new Proxes T1R then. More than enough grip for the HP in the car and good wet traction.
Cheers,
Darren

I just put the RE050's on my car, due to a lack of other options for the rear (285/30 19) and I think they're great. they're quiet and so far they dont break loose as quickly as the conti. I had toyo's before on my C32, and they were horribly loud.

TBone,
I agree with the old Toyo's (Proxes T1-S...or something like that). I heard the newer one is greatly improved in the noise department, but I cannot vouch for that since I haven't owned a pair. I owned the older ones on my 740i Sport and they got loud just like the F1 GS-D3 tires doe after being worn down somewhat.
If you don't mind cost then go with the RE050A. Since grip is not an issue you'll enjoy the tires.
Cheers.

Here's what I'm looking for in a tire:
- Obviously, due to power constraints, grip off the line is not important. But I do like grip around corners, freeway onramps, etc.
- Low noise level
- Relatively good tire wear
As I'm running PS2's right now, the cost of the RE050A is not an issue, as it's actually a much cheaper tire.
Keep the responses coming!

After having several cars with the GS-D3's I will never buy another set. Yes they are sticky, yes they are good in the wet, and yes they are quiet when new but as they age and wear they turn to total JUNK.
I had the wheel bearings on my E500 replaced thinking they were causing serious groaning sounds at low speeds. No it was just the horrible tires at 1/2 tread depth making the car sound like a busted Kia. I put on a set of PS2's and the car went back to the silent car it was before.
My E55 currently has PS'2 on it right now and the fronts are nearly at the cords on the inside fronts and the rears are down to wear bars all the way across the tire. The car is a bit skitish at speed with this level of wear but the car is still riding like it did when the tires were new. Road noise is just fine and is only slightly worse than when the tires were new.
The Goodyears were just horrible and they are made even worse with a very soft sidewall that give great ride quality but very mushy steering inputs.
I think the PS2 and the RE050A Pole Position are near equals and the Goodyear is not even on the chart once its got 5k miles on the tire.

I got RE050A's ... I like them - loads more grip than stock conti's but then they are 285's....
also much more quiet than the Pirelli's that were on a E63 I tested.

the toyo proxes t1s tires were surprisingly loud as they wore down. they revised the tire and developed the t1r which has block tread up against the sidewall which is supposed to stop the sound. i know several people who are using the tires, but they are all relatively new.
