Question Flat tire concerns

How do you deal with possibility of getting a flat? I have a 2003 E55 which did not come with a spare. I checked out the cost of getting the spare that comes with the 2005 and it costs around $650 complete!!!! Are you confident the fix-a-flat that came with no spare models will work? Also, how often do you cahange out the spare in a can?

Thanks.

No fix o flat is junk and MB has a TSB saying if you have TPMS do not use the fix a flat kit as it will destroy the pressure sensor.

So I went and got AAA's premium 300+ mile tow package so that if I get a flat on a road trip they can get my car to a quality tire shop for replacement of destroyed rubber.

I would complain about not having a spare tire but seems like no cars these days come with them and thats the way it goes.

I have the same issue down-under.
The can of "goo" has an expirey date on it - cost me $A100 for a new one!!!!!!!!! when I service the car this week. *******s.
I wasn't game to try a cheap can of goo incase it didn't work as well and I got stuck in the country (its not like the US here).
I asked about a space saver spare but the tyre well is too small in an E55 because of the dual exhaust. Try putting one of your wheels in the well - it doesn't fit.
If some one knows of a cheap after-market solution that actually fits in the well I'd like to hear about it. Details of sizing would be the most useful, or a supplier.
Thanks

I retrofitted my car with a spare and I think the cost was only around $200. I'll check to see if I have receipts to make sure. But I do know that it was definitely not $650.

Follow that thread. It talks about some of the 2004's not having a spare and how I put one in my 2004 E55. I forgot how much the spare cost from MB, I don't think it was $650 though.

MB dealer quoted me about $650!! I would be interested in cheaper alternatives. Thanks.

I'm confused. My car came with a compact spare and an electric pump to fill it up. same setup I had in the '04, '05, and the '06Ml. Is that what you guys are saying, or did you NOT get the black rim spare at all?

'03's and early production 04's did NOT have a spare. The active illumination headlights which were in MBUSA's literature for '04 were not included with the lighting package until mid production model year '04 they were both a rolling change for the '04 year.
