Used E55 Pricing Range Explanation?

Am I missing something somewhere? The pricing on used E55’s is all over the place. For example on 05’s they range from 60k up to high 70’s (non certified MB) Are those people asking at the high end on drugs, dreamers or actually getting close to their numbers? I’ve had mine listed on the low end with some interest but no one seems to have any money. I know all about the 63’s being out and their possible effect on resale. I’m just trying to figure out the wide range of pricing. Any ideas? Thanks.

not sure, but when I tried to get my Certified car, there were very few E55's at dealers, now dealers have a surplus of E63's are they not selling and causing our prices to raise... it that what you mean? I heard the same about the new CL... not a great looking car (I haven't seen it) but my dealer said he's sure the older CL's will raise in resale due to the change.

No, I'm nnot questioning the rising and falling of the prices. I'm just wondering where people come up with the asking prices and are any at the high end price range selling. If not, why are these people keeping the asking prices so high?
Thanks again.

I was also surprised to see the pricing for 05's as low as high 50's and as high as low 70's! The lower prices are in fact more accurate according to KBB and other sources....

I got my CPO '04 Brilliant Silver/Black with 11K miles for $60K OTD a month ago.

Full options except distronic.

I wanted an '04 due to it still having the free maintenance, so I lucked out with finding this low, low mileage one.

I saw a 2005 for $58K while looking, but it didn't even have Xenons.

The dealer I am negotiating with has a Silver 2005, loaded, with 16K miles on it and their asking 79,900. A dealer 10 miles from them has a Black 2005, loaded, 25K miles, and that dealer is askin 61,000. There is good crack going around, and I think most of the dealers are smoking it. Or something.... I'll be using the black 05 with 25K on it has a negotiating tool tomorrow morning when I try to purchase the Silver 05

You are right by some of the prices people post up, they are kidding themselves if they think it will sell. Dealers in particular tend to list a car very high, in the hope that letting you knock 5 grand off will make you buy it. Cars over 50 k are hard enough to sell private party, don't try to be the most expensive one listed too.

Aim for KBB Trade-in Good (for non-CPO) and trade-in excellent (for CPO)... so start between KBB trade-in fair & good... Most likely the dealers buy them around that price... so unless they have high confidence they could sell the cars on the lot quickly, you would make them nervous w/ the fact: Should we sell at decent profit now or should we wait for God knows how long?

Based on my experience so far, the dealers would pick the first one

A friend of mine recently bought a 330i from a dealer. The first asking price is RETAIL. My friend first offered KBB trade-in fair.... all the salesmen laughed at him. He then said: "OK then... I'll look somewhere else". The sales manager quickly approached him and told him if he was willing to raise $1K (about KBB trade-in good), he'd get the car. So he said OK... And this is in Bay Area where BMW 3-series sell like nuts.
