Audi S6 Gets Ripped By Jeremy Clarkson...
I guess you could say Jeremy Clarkson doesn't care for the new S6...

"possibly the biggest disappointment in all of automotive history"
Final verdict "utterly, utterly useless"
Well, he never pulls any punches. I secretly wish for a high-performance 4-wheel drive wagon to drive around in the winter, blowing past unsuspecting SUV's. Guess this isn't it.

So you plan to base your purchase decision on one arrogant british journalist's opinion? This is the same person who called the E55 bland and said it "looks like a Honda". His writing is entertaining, nothing more.

Hey, my winter car is a Honda! If I got a chance to drive an S6 wagon, I would. But if I had to order one to drive it, I'd be likely to vote thumbs down after a review like that.

As for the S6, I wasn't expecting a stellar review, but I was expecting a decent suspension after they did such a great job with the RS4. Guess we'll have to wait for the soon-to-be-astronimically-priced RS6.

Clarkson is one of the best auto journalists on the planet, but he does have a particular niche that he likes his cars to fit in, and of course he was going to can the E55. He looks at cars as the aggregate sum total of themselves, and in his perspective the E55 is missing a whole lot (brake feel, a suspension that actually handles).

E55 AMG
Clarkson used to own an SL55, he traded his Ferrari in for it!

2002 E55 AMG
Interesting article. BTW, Jeremy used to have an SL55 and now has a SLK55. I think he replaced the SL with the Ford GT...

Hes a great entertainer. He makes me laugh out loud. As an objective journalist, he is worth a Pakistan dollar. Or whatever currency they use over there.

In the last five miles of my journey I discovered that deep beneath the layers of utter and complete electronic nonsense, and the rather ugly body, there’s one truly amazing car.
Just when I was thinking that BMW had made yet another car for yet another software consultant, it did something I really wasn’t expecting.
It became a full-on M5. And praise doesn’t come higher than that.

back on topic...
The review of the new S6 doesn't come as a surprise. It is effectively just a stop-gap while they work on the new RS6, which will have Dynamic Ride Control so that it doesn't bounce down the road like the S6. DRC works by using a pump to keep pressure in the shocks and eliminate rolling and pitching. Why they left this out on the S6 can only be to further differentiate the RS models as even the 03 RS6 had DRC.
If Audi do commit to the 5.2 V10TT putting out 550+bhp with bags of low down torque and a match it to the handling advances they made with the 07 RS4 then it should be some car. It will also be unique in the marketplace unless AMG wake up and start putting AWD in their sedans.
The only fly in the ointment is that the last I heard was that DSG will not accompany the car on launch. While the Tiptronic 'box is okay and will not stop my order, matching the above to DSG would, in my opinion, create the best all-rounder on the market.
S6 is no match for the E63/55 or M5, but the forthcoming RS6 will make for one hell of a triple-test.

If the boys at Audi don't get murdered in their sleep by jealous Lamborghini engineers first, I think the RS6 will absolutely dominate the marketplace performance-wise. If they manage to bulletproof the DSG enough to handle 550+ ponies, I think it will be game over for our cars. Imagine the kind of acceleration numbers that thing will run, and with simple mods?? Place your orders or run and hide.
