996TT X50 vs 997TT

996TT X50 vs 997TT
Hey guys just got back from my porsche dealer and they have a 2003 996TT X50 with 11k miles for 90k and they also have a spot to build a 997TT in Dec. They had two 997TT there that were sold and they had a white one that was bad. Any body have time in both cars? The sales guy told be they are not that different but I think he doesnt know. Just curious if the 997TT is worth an extra 37k or if to just get the 996TT X50 and pay evo like 5-6k to make it a 520hp car?

i would buy a used one b/c in a few months the new one will lose more $.
i test drove a 996tt, i was gonna get one and didnt like, i prefer cars that make you work for the speed, my grandma can drive that car fast as ****, its too easy to drive fast, its not a sports car, its a gt. just my opinion

Tough decision indeed! I would say go for the 997 because I like the front design much better (with regards to the headlights and the LEDs in the bumper). If going for performacne I would get the 996 because stock they are roughly the same speed but if you tune the 996 as mentioned it would be faster indeed. IMO find a GT2, mmm rear wheel drive, lighter, ceramic composite brakes (not sure if part of X50?) and more power 
P.S. with regards to looks, the 996TT X50 wins in the back end with the 'double bubble' tail lights

I'd buy a 996TT ahead of a NA 997 (excluding the new GT3).
Quicker, better looking imo and easily tuneable.
I have to disagree it's a pure GT. It's one of the few cars that can act as a GT and a great DD but also a true sports car whenever the mood take you. I am biased though. The 996TT is probably my favorite all time car.

The 997TT is by FAR a superior car than the 996TT.. Most users mentioned the "looks" of the two vehicles and resale value (HUGE difference) but overlook the 997TT's biggest assest:
It's breakthrough in variable turbine geometry (VTG)
VTG is the secret behind the 997TT that propels it up in to the Ferrari Enzo and Lambo Murcielago 0-60mph territory. In fact the 997TT is so advanced it's the ONLY vehicle with a smart automatic transmission that results in a faster acceleration than manual! (3.7s as opposed to 3.9s)
So to keep things short, the ONLY way someone could beat you is if it's Michael Schumacher himself driving the Enzo.. Otherwise, any "average" driver would fail to achieve the quoted 3.6s but all YOU have to do with the 997TT is floor the gas!

But you can get low mile 996TT for a lot less than the 90k posted. Of course the 997TT is a great step up but it is beyond the finacial means of many people, while the 996 is getting better value each day.

Both are great cars, but I would go for the 997TT, because of its variable turbine geometry and overboost option, which a big fan of turbos, like myself, would go for.

vtg is stupid if you planning on moding because it restrict the mods available/boost (i had a long conv. about this w/ a p car salesman, he drives a 996tt w/ "about" 575hp)

I don't know ... the manual in the 997 is just amazing ... while the tip is faster I can't forget how wonderful the manual felt. By far the best I've driven.
PS I'd go for the 997.

I was just starting a new job and didn't want to turn up in the flashest car in the parking lot. I also bought the G-Wagen for my girlfriend so something had to give. I also didn't realize how much I would miss it. It was the stock 414bhp version and I bought it with 25,000 miles but it remains the most exhilharating car I have ever owned.

I think if you could find a 996 GT2 in good shape - that could be a fabulous keeper / track car. Also has a more generous front boot as the front wheel drive components are gone and you also have a larger gas tank - which is seriously needed in these cars. But it is pretty hard core for a DD.
If I had to buy one now - (given I have a boy of 2 and looking to add) it would have to be the 997TT. If I had to get a 996TT I would only look for a GT2 - much more exclusive - and would be a weekend car.

there is no way the 996t is better looking than any 997 (imo),(993t ****s on both of them)
i thought 996t>997 n/a (exc. gt3) until i drove a 996tt
