E63 vs. E55
All of you wondering what the actual HP/TQ difference between the 55 and the 63, here it is. 2007 E63 with 480 miles on the odo 100% stock. To keep it semi-accurate, the 63 plot is compared to a board memebers 2005 E55 that had a mere 130 miles on the odo, 100% stock. Let's try to keep it on topic. If you're here to say how much you hate our dyno- don't waste your time. What we're interested in is the DELTA- that's all that really matters anyway.... Enjoy!

Cory,
Is the 2.82 rear a direct swap? Can the ECU and the rest of the electronics live with that? That would be a great upgrade to the 55's if it's painless.

Rocket- These are crank numbers, not wheel.
Akara- yes- the 63 makes about 30 (give or take) LESS HP than that particular E55 made- we won't even mention the torque difference.
FastE55- From just quickly looking at the E63, I would say it is a direct swap. Half shafts look the same, as do all suspension components, subframes, etc. You'll need to have your trans. controller programmed if you want to swap ratio's though.

I really didn't expect the difference to be so drastic. Either M-B is lyin or the hp range in production is all over the map. Either way, something is just plain rotten.

I hate your dyno... just kidding
Thanks for the post, now we have some empirical data to compare using the same dyno machine. But again, its just machine numbers and not what the car does on the street- still the disparity is crazy.

20+ to list......
Good choice I made when I picked up the E55 instead of the E63.
Now, let's see what some of the newbies that swear on God which the E63 is faster than E55 have to say after reading this post.

What are all you E55 owners gonna do when us E63'ers start adding blowers to our cars? You guys are so paranoid now, I can't imagine what it'll be like! ![tyson](https://mbworld.org/forums/images/smilies/boxing.gif)
Yeah, good thing. You'd be screwed if you had to drive an E63 all day lol.

Good thing I kept the E55

Hi Cory,
The first thing I noticed is that the E63 only had 480 miles on the odometer........so obviously the motor is not broken-in.
On a more serious note, do you think this was an anomaly or should we expect to see similar results with other 63s.
Finally, is the only significant power upgrade on these cars going to be a blower?

All this bickering is really ignorant on both ends. Each is different.
On a serious note, I'd be careful being the "pioneer" on modding an E63 too heavily. The weak links in the E55 have been found, but not on the E63. It will be a classic case of breaking the weakest link as you continue to upgrade. We all know my feeling towards the 7g, so I would strongly consider any low end TQ mods. If I got an E63, I'd go for more high rpm changes that won't stress the system as much.

The 05 E55 also had 150 miles on it.........

I'd like to see the E63 with more miles on the clock. However, that kind of power in an E-Class equates to the times that DerekFSU posted when he first got his E63.

Looks like you got screwed with your choice!
