Well, they are in business to make money. MB is selling way more AMGs, and making way more money than BMW is selling M5s. Only die hard enthusiasts can live with M5s as a daily driver. The percentage of people who buy M5s and then get rid of them within a few months is staggering. In my area I see numerous AMGs daily and I have only seen one M5 other than mine (which I recently got rid of). I would bet good money that the next M5 will be less "raw". Unless BMW doesn't care about losing money ... I don't know.
