Participated in a track rental at Atco today. Track was warmer than I had hoped, with a DA of 780.
I made more than 15 passes, mostly in the 11.9's. New personal best of 11.901 @ 117.23, with a 1.727 60 foot time. Bone stock on PS2s lowered to 22 psi in the rear.
Also ran an 11.904 @ 117.01, with a 1.730 60 ft. time and an 11.913 @ 117.59, with a 1.736 60 ft. time to back it up. I had ten 11 second passes.
My best 60 ft. times were 1.661 (on an 11.952 pass), and a 1.681 (on a 12.019 pass). I couldn't believe my eyes.
I found that rolling hard into the throttle without preloading gave me consistent 1.7 60 ft times. The car just exploded off the light. I also found that hot-lapping produced my best runs. That was really odd. I would make a run, and immediately get faster on the next two passes.
Everybody was impressed. Even Ranger (who came up from Maryland) had some great things to say. Pretty impressive guy to be around. He really is so focused at the strip. My friend's bone stock C6 Z06 ran an 11.35 @ 125 (speed is from memory) on street tires. Dang can that car move.

what the hell is up with that track? not trying to take anything away from your car but i'm always hearing about the best times in the country coming from that track.

Congrats very fast runs, How cold was it during the rental?.
Cold fronts are beginning to make thier way down here so Moroso is starting to look good.

Quick question....so stomping off the line with no loading it up.
Did you keep it to the floor or is it more like Malcolms method. Stomp off line, then let up and work your way to the floor again.
With times like that, I am begging for any launch info.
Great job!!

Thanks all. Weather was warmer than we had hoped for. It was 63 - 64 degrees all day. We started running late because they were drying off the track and surrounding areas after the soaking rain we had last night.
Atco is generally a fast track. Some have said that because it is surrounded by trees on three sides, the air is better oxygenated. I don't know if that is bs, but that's what I heard.
Track prep is excellent there, too. I still can't believe I ran a 1.661 60 ft. time.
I also think that people generally have better times at a track rental. When you are not "racing" someone, but instead going for an e/t, you tend to concentrate on your launches. I know that when I am running against someone on an ordinary day at e-town, I sometimes load the car up too high because I am concentrating on the lights. Today, nobody bothered to roll until seconds after the green light was lit.

Not that involved at all. I just floored it as I let off the brake. Not so much stomping as squashing. I found that when I preloaded, I would spin enough to trip the esp light. It was really simple. The guys at the line were very impressed with how hard the car was launching.
Then I just kept it buried. I thought I would push the pedal through the floorboard.
Thanks, man.

Thanks! I am trying to scan my slips for dragtimes. My scanner/computer is not being cooperative. As soon as they get posted, I will change my sig with a link to the new slip.Originally Posted by can drive 55

your technique seems to back up the statements i made just the other day about launching these cars. they seem to do best WITHOUT loading.Originally Posted by enzom

I realized late in the day that my car had been in the Sport 1 suspension setting. Changed it to comfort. I did not detect any noticeable improvement.

By the way, if anyone is interested, here are my top three slips. I also added the slip showing my 1.661 sixty foot time. Please ignore the reaction times. Wasn't really "racing".

I think you should Unofficially have the fastes bone stock E55.
Your AMG tech must of had a BONER when building our engine. (sorry moderators)

enzom,
Those are some terrific times and I am very impressed with those 0-60ft numbers, especially with PS2 rubber.
Is your car post MB re-flash? If it is, I think everyone should rush to their nearest MB dealer for the latest software update.
Finally, when you see times like that, it makes you realize that the E55 is still the four-door KING of the highways (at least when they're straight).

1.70's 60-foots are incredible for ANY street tire car. I have no doubt that Ranger was equally impressed as he is a stand up guy in his own right.
BTW, they also put in a good word for you over at the Corvette Forum board
