Does anyone know the specific torque spec to bolt on our rims?

No, not excessive torque

Given that the wheels bolts are 14mm with a relatively small bolt circle (112mm), no, 130 Nm is not excessive.

Just do like the corner tire shop. Keep the air gun going until the compressor runs out of air...

or the other method - drive one bolt so hard it breaks in half - then back off about 2 turns on the torque stop... ...and charge the customer for new bolts...

Seriously 90-95 ft-lbs seems high but when you set them to that rating its only a good pull on the wrench with a 3 foot handle. In otherwors it doesn't seem that much when done by hand.

bolt torque

On the serious side, as important as proper torque is, cross tightening is of equal importance. be sure before torqueing, snug the bolts in a chris cross pattern. Then proceed to torque them also in a criss cross pattern.

well said AND if you have aftermarket wheels make sure you have exactly the right length and type of bolts - the OEM are not always the right ones for new wheels.

That is a MAJOR pet peeve of mine. Try taking the wheel off with the factory equipment. It really is a safety issue. God forbid you get a flat and need to change your own tire - you'll break something before you get that wheel off.

Be sure to lube them. I've used antiseize in the past for my studs on my Vette and that works well too.

I'm trying to get some help with this as well. I bought a torque wrench to tighten up the last step but it didn't give me enough room to ratch so I returned it. I used the arm bar to tighten all the bolts, is this a bad move?

The reason I ask is last time I tried to take my rims off, the dealership had tighten then so much that i had my 250lb brother put his entire body weight down on the wrench and it did not budge... I guess the dealership does not follow protocol. AIR GUN AWAY!

I am not so sure we want to lube or anti seie those bolts...don't they need the interference to stay tight ? Thats what I always thought and never lubed lug nuts or bolts

if you put anything on the studs you will not be able to torque them properly as the lube or antiseize will act as a lubricant and give inaccurate readings on the torque wrench.

If they are clean and torqued properly there is no problem removing them. When some idiot at the dealer slams them on with an airgun then you need a breaker bar to get them off.

you should only use the torque wrench for final tightening, use a regular ratchet or breaker bar to get snug then torque to spec.

This type of abuse can cause the rotors to warp. It is unlikely that this will happen with our cars since the bolts attach to the hub, but something to look out for. When you take it in for service tell them you expect the wheels to be reinstalled with a torque wrench.

Last time I got my car aligned, the guy swapped the two front wheels.

Lo and behold, I took off my front wheels (to do the brake pads myself) a few weeks later and one of the bolts on one of the wheels were completely loose. Luckily it didn't fall out on the highway.

Point: never trust the peeps with the airguns.

And btw, I torque mine to 90 ft/lbs too.
