Preventative Replacement of IC Pump?
Has anyone done a preventative replacement of the intercooler pump in their E55? In reading through the old posts, this seems like a pretty common failure. Wondering whether it's worth the cost of doing it on a preventative basis and avoiding an essentially disabled car situation, or just waiting till mine goes and dealing with it when it happens. The pump is forbiddeningly expensive, so maybe the cost is the price for a little peace of mind.

Hey dude, if you have warranty i would wait until it happens. its really easy. you take the car in they diagnose it and order the part.. it takes a couple of hours for them to replace it and you have ur beast back and better than ever. It's not werth you spending money on something that might not be an issue with your particular 55
Have a good day man....

I see no need in replacing it just for the preventative reason, thats what warranties are for?
If you do your homework and search the issue, the pump can be replaced for alot less than going through MB for a new one.Or you could use one of the tuners larger pumps instead.

You could try just taking it in. There are no fault codes, anyway.
Also, keep in mind that it isn't that the car won't run. It is simply that the SC temp get too high so it shuts off. There is still power, even if it is 250hp.

If you measure mph, rpm's and IAT, it should be perfectly clear when the heat shuts down the s/c.
You better be prepared with data logging or insist that they take it out with a mobile Star Diagnostic laptop and monitor the IAT themselves.

As expensive as it sounds, I am going to replace my presently functional factory IC pump and heat exchanger with the new RennTech kit. It's about $3400 - I think Adam at Euroelites was willing to sell the kit for around $3100 as a year-end special -but don't quote me. Even if it is $3500 plus install, it would surely "bullet-proof" the number 1 Achilles' Heel in these SC 55 cars. I have read posts from forum members who have the EVO and the Kleemann kits - which are similar to the new RennTech kit - and they can do multiple dyno pulls with no significant power loss and multiple passes at the strip turning consistent, barn-burning times. I really trust RennTech as they seem to know these cars like nobody's business and stand behind their products. It may seem kind of expensive and currently not necessary, but I sure would sleep at night knowing that my car isn't going to just "check out" at what would certainly be the least convenient possible time.

And if it's a cool day and they can't reproduce the problem, you'll get your car back with the same pump as when you brought it in.

Back-up is nice.
I would gladly sell you may original as a back-up. My car is an 05 with 10,500 miles and the IC pump shows no sign of failure whatsoever. We will need to see how quickly I can move on the RT kit. I saved up the necessary fundage, but now have sort of unexpectedly been placed in a position where I need to move my office to a new location. I have been sub-letting from another lawyer for years and that will no longer be an option effective March 1. So, I need to buy some office furniture - equipment - phone system - etc. May delay the upgrade, but hopefully will put me in a position to afford many more upgrades in the future! I will stay in touch with you and let you know if and when my original IC pump is available.
