Hit in the parking lot...
I parked in the far end of an uncrowded lot to avoid door dings. Instead, some woman in a huge SUV backed all the way across the lot and hit my bumper.(E 55) It cracked the bumper and upper fascia. The whole bumper cover will need to be replaced. No damage to the frame or suspension.
There were no witnesses, but the woman was kind enough to leave a note on the windshield. I called her and thanked her for leaving the note. She was relieved that I wasn't angry. She gave me her insurance info, but suggested that if the damage was less than $2,000, she would pay cash.
What do you think it will cost?

Ouch! Glad to hear that there are some honest people in the world. You could repay her by letting her pay for the repairs so it doesnt' go against her insurance. There's always a risk in that because people are often shocked at how much it does cost to repair a Mercedes. It just might approach or eclipse $2,000.

You're lucky the note didn't say, "People are watching so I'm leaving this note. Sorry."
That happened to a guy I know.

Not to be the downer, but I think you should take it to a nice shop and get it done right. That is just going to mean it will cost more. I also say you are lucky she left the note and to take it easier on her, but you still want the car done right as well. Where are you located?

that really sucks. i usually try to park away from all the other cars, especially at school. i hate when other cars park right next to me when there are plenty of open spaces on both sides of me. usually i'll try to park right next to a light pole that doesn't have bird **** around it. i figure people wont drive too close to light poles like they do in wide open parking lots.
