Someone who can turbocharge our E55s

Found this thread in another MB forum http://www.benzworld.org/forums/w211...turbo-kit.html . I wonder how realistic this is and how much it would cost to do such thing.

I'm positive a simple turbo kit will make more power with less boost than the current S/C setups... I cant wait to see how this idea turns out...

Then how do you explain the RS6 with a simple turbo kit produces less HP and torque then the sc e55? I'm all up for removing the sc replacing it with a turbo kit if what this guy says is true about making the e55 produce 1000rwhp provided that the kit will not cost over 20k

Isn't the RS6 only a 4.2L engine and the E/CLS55 a 5.5L?

20+ to list......
I don't see much room in the engine compartment to mount 2 turochargers, but it would be interesting to see what they can come up with.

I'm not going to argue on this topic, I was providing known information. Turbos will make more power under less boost, this has been known for many years and is evident in most race cars.

Also, as E55Jay mentioned, the Quattro system which makes the car handle amazing also robs it of power to the wheels.

things with and without wheels
With superchargers it takes power to create boost, with turbos it is considered free boost. Having twin turbos eliminates the dreaded turbo lagg.

As mentioned, a 4.2 engine as opposed to a 5.5 - if a 4.2 turbo produces 450 bhp, and a supercharge 5.5 produces about 30 bhp more, makes sense that turbo's make more power

True, you guys are right... I totally forgot the rs6 is a 4.2 engine. But still though, if a 4.2 turbo produces 450hp, a 5.5 would produce something like 580hp max so I find it hard to believe how he could make it produce 1000rwhp unless the whole engine and transmission is replaced.

yeah i agree that 1000bhp sounds a little optomistic, but turbo's are definately better for power, supercharger generally for driveability

.........A 5.5L V8 engine can easily make 1000RWHP. That is not the problem. Turbos are much much much more efficient than s/c's. As for Audi, car manufacturers sacriice HP for reliability. The problem is engine management. What engine computer to use to advance fuel and timming is the major problem especially in a CANBUS car.
