Got my wheels back today

It's a semi-long story.

I bought my Maya STMs from Neal last June. The %$#^%$^%$ Boston roads bent the two front rims rather quickly. The bend was not that bad but I can feel the vibration through the steering wheel at 45-55MPH. I tried to get them straighten once before at a local shop in the Waltham area. However, it didn't help with the vibration at all. So, I had to put up with it until I had my winter wheels back on.

One week before I put my winter wheels back on, I took the car to my regular detail place. I told them not to use chrome cleaner on the lips but somehow they forgot and used it on one of the lips which tarnished the lip. Since the detail place is owned by the garage, I filed a claim with the garage. So, the garage ended up paying to get ALL 4 of my lips refinished. I took my wheels fixed at a place called Rimpro in Tewksbury, MA. The results was amazing and the 2 front rims no longer vibrate when they put it on the RoadForce machine. They also repolished all 4 lips and clearcoated them. This place really knows what they're doing and I highly recommend them to anyone in the NE area that needs to repair their rims.

Kev - thanks for the well needed info. I recently purhased a 2000 E55 in Boston in great shape except for the rims. Most of the lips on the original rims are scuffed up. The dealership recommended some place in Quincy but i was hesitant to the quality of the repair...sounds like you might have ended my search - I will check out Rimpro

thanks!

My buddy purchases a brand new X5 a few months back. He scuffed one of the rims on the curb. He brought it to a place in Quincy also and had only great things to say.... Just an FYI.

If you just scruffed a rim, you can probably get it fixed at the dealership. I know Chambers in Somerville has a wheel guy that comes in every Friday to fix minor curbed rims.

That has to wait until the outside of my school looks like the pic again....

It's now all ice and slush and I have my stock rims with winter tires on.

All 4 rims are minorly scratched (no dents) its all asthetic....I'm just concerned about the process, if they just grind down the lip of the rim and then polish it out or if they actually sand it down and then re-shoot the entire rim - I can get new rims for $500 a piece and rimpro is about 190-200 a rim so I am hesitant which way to go...I just want to make sure I get it done right the first time and dont get back some orange peel rims that look nothing close to stock . I use to detial cars way back in the day so i do get a bit neurotic about the details.

thanks for the fyi and helpful info -

L

Only if a cab can take me to the obscure clinical sites that my school sends me to.

Actually, come to think about it, I probably didn't bend them hitting a pot hole. I think the more likely scenario is that I went up the slope at the underground garage too quickly.

I know... but it's a real b!tch to clean the lips without the clear coat. Also, the Maya rims have a different technique that they use to make the chrome look lip. That's why it would take the chrome cleaner. It's impossible to replicate the effect in the US.
