AMG Speedshift vs BMW's SMG 3

I'm a Mercedes fanatic and my friend is a BMW fanatic, so we always end up comparing AMG to BMW's M models. We looked up how fast SMG 3 shifts on BMW's website, and it stated that the transmission shifts in 80 ms...
Not even the great Bugatti Veyron with the twin clutch system shifts that fast (Bugatti shifts at 150 ms).

Does anybody know how fast the AMG SpeedShift transmission shifts? I did a search and all I could come up with is that 5-speed SpeedShift shifts up to 35% faster, and the new 7-speed shifts up to 50% faster. Faster than what? There is no mention of how fast (in milliseconds) does it actually shift?

Any input would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks,

The VW/Audi DSG (newly dubbed S-Tronic) gearbox shifts at 8ms (which the Bugatti has also A3, GTI, TT), BMW SMG shifts at 80ms. I can't find any numbers for AMG's Speedshift though, doesn't seem published?

I amlost want to count Mississippis between the 1-2 shift at full throttle on the strip. Actually, it is probably not that slow, but it seems to take longer than it should. Must be some sort of torque management system designed to keep the tranny from eating itself up.

With plenty of experience on both 5 and 7 speed AMG transmissions, I can say without a doubt, that they ain't very speedy. The 35 and 50% numbers refer to the improvement over the S-L-O-W non-AMG tranny's.

Bugatti's transmission shift speeds

So does the Bugatti shift at 8 ms or 150 ms?

Most of the documentation I've seen states that the Bugatti shifts @ 150 ms. I've also read that the upshift may be as fast as 10 ms, but the down shift is about 240 ms. But on average, most articles I've read confirms the 120 to 150 ms number.

Can you please elaborate?

Which company makes the FASTEST shifting transmission?

The Bugatti has the DSG transmission (dual clutch system) and shifts at 8ms. DSG (now called S-Tronic) was introduced by VW and made by BorgWarner and is used by Audi/VW/Porsche. Specs I've found report 8ms upshift and downshift (numerous sites).

Currently, I believe this is the fastest shifting transmission. It beats the Ferrari DSG/F1 type shifting transmission (150ms). Nothing else I've read about comes close to 8ms for the DSG transmission.
