chrome vs. polished wheel outer lip

Why pick chrome vs. the standard, which seems to be polished? Looking for some input before I buy new HRE 597R charcoal center wheels. Also, is there any reason to clearcoat a polished lip vs. no clearcoat for a california car?

Just a matter of preference.
If it's an all black wheel, I prefer the chrome lip, otherwise I'd go polished (or colored).

The chrome lip is ALOT easier to maintain, the polished lip starts to dull and you have to keep polishing them every so often.

When I went to get wheels for my car,I was told that the chrome finish last longer and doesn't need as much attention and maintenance as a polished lip

IMO chrome is too flashy...polished has more depth to it...I chose NOT to clearcoat so I can polish out nicks or scratches without having to deal with clearcoat issues. Lots of folks complain the clearcoat peel later anyway.

But if you scratch chrome, then you have a rust issue? I have not purchase chrome wheels in a long time, just polished. Is HRE's chrome pretty tough?

No rust issue since the wheel is aluminum,
Guess its personal preference on how you want it to appear

Chrome looks a bit weird IMO (reflects the wheels at certain angles, making the wheel look more complicated than it actually is). I'm with polished all the way as far as looks go.

Eww i hate chrome lips. Its so shinny that it almost looks to dark. Polished to me looks a lot better. Sure does require more effort though. If you damage the chrome lip it needs to be replaced, you cant fix chrome unless you rechrome the whole thing. Polished can be fixed easy if its damaged.

That's the beauty of chrome no need for the power ball or the drill.Simply apply soap and water and call it a day.
