Let me see if I can address all of the questions.
1. First-off, thank you ALL for kudos and support!!!!!!!!
2. I have left MBLN. It is a GREAT place to work. However, I tremendously missed playing with cars. At this time I have three offers and I am considering each one very carefully. I will post my decision on Monday.
Meanwhile - If anyone is looking for a new or pre-owned MB, please call Amir -at 949.228.2155, he is going to take over for me at MBworld and will be a sponsor very shortly. He is a very cool guy, and as you know I would not let anyone I do not trust or believe in - take over for me.
3. In terms of filters. In my many years of dynoing and playing with cars, a hi-flow air filter (K&N, AFE or other brands) generaly gain several HP at the wheels. However, the design of the air box plays a bigger role in the end.
IMHO, 63 air box is too small. I am designing a bigger one.
4. Software is next for trezai's E63. I am guessing over 450 RWHP.
5. IMHO other 2007 MY MBs have the carbon filter as well.
SO, I SAY LETS LIBERATE THE POWER WE ARE ENTITLED TO!!!
To the Torx bits people.......................

If that is the case, that would mean that the AMG cars were high enough in emissions that they had to put the filters in to get the just below the legal limit.
Any ideas if this should result in better mileage or worst?

Just did the mod to my E63. Very easy to do it takes 15 min. max. The only thing i did different was i took the " V " shaped section of the front of the airfilter assembly off, Snaps on and off real easy. Gives you alot more room to move the assembly.
You can feel and hear a difference it's not that much louder but you can hear the intake alot more. As for SOP It does feel stronger.
I was looking at the rest of the intake track and both airboxes are connected together in a plenum then split into to runners that end at the grill. At the grill there is a almost 90 degree lip there to stop rain water i guess. I felt the tubes after going for a moderate run and the tubes were just hot to say the least. Has anybody modded any of the forward sections from the grill to the back of the boxes ?

Like everyone else, I want the "free" horsepower....but is there a downside to all of this? Getting rid of the restriction is good...but the charcoal filters had to have played some role in this. Someone with more knowledge I hope can explain...!

If I'm not mistaken it is a US emissions thing, in the case of the M5's the charcoal filters are only present in the US models. I read on the BMW forums that it's to prevent odors from coming out of the intake track when you shut the car off. It makes sense since charcoal filters in general are for odor removal.

When you say vapor emissions...do you mean fuel?....if thats the case, is there a chance of a backfire if the vapors build-up?

get your own star diagnose system and offer tuning and trouble shooting services and you will be very successful here in cali.
star system: fan mods, lowering, custom settings
tuning: ecu
troubleshooting: AMG troubleshooting (turbos, kompressor, ect)
if you remember: I paid $700+ to a dealer to diagnose a problem which they failed to do. I felt so cheated. It turned out to be a simple $18 bearing and my aftermarket wires were not making good contact.
I rather pay somebody $95 an hour knowing that I will get a quality service, than some BS from a service manager that doesn't care.

I claim idiot status here - I don't see any filters in the air boxes other than the two air filters. I've pulled the covers off completely except for the MAF connection. I've read this thread twice and looked at the pics. Where exactly are the charcoal filters? Argh.
