How to remove double sided tape?

Hi all. I took the center of my three piece rear spoiler off, since it was not properly installed. I plan to clean it up and re-install it. How is it best for me to clean the double sided tape that stayed on the paint? I was wondering if there is a product or method?
Thanks

The auto body shops uses a tool that is basically an eraser on a wheel. Use this on SLOW speed drill. If you track down a tool truck they are about $30. Then use a solvent and a soft towel like wd40 to remove what residue is left.

Best bet would be an eraser pad like one of these.

Pretty sure you could get one from Tri City Paint on Miramar Rd.

I bought some Goof Off. Should I not use it?

There is no fin out there that has the fit, finish, or feel of the MB one, much less RennTech's one. If I wanted a one piece lip, I'd get the e63 one LOOOONG before any other.

I've used Goof off on my previous Mercedes with no problems. I would try it first on a small unseen area just to play it safe though. If all works out, it should easily take off the left over double sided tape.

Try Tarminator to loosen the glue....or some other tar remover. At least its safe on the finish .

That’s what I was talking about! But don't use it with a high speed die grinder like the one in the picture. Otherwise you will be guaranteed a burnt spot on the finish. Ask me how I know...

I think Goo Gone is less aggressive than Goof Off. I have never had it damage anything. I really don't know if Goof Off will damage the finish.

I'm just pretty sure that Goo Gone won't cut it. I may should do th eheat and wipe thing, then goo gone? I just don't want to screw up any more paint than is needed, even if I do plan to keep a fin on it.

ive done alot of this double sided tape removal and my finger used to go numb until i came up with this technique, heat up the double sided tape with a heat gun, hair dryers take to long, then spray tar and bug remover on it, wait about a minute and use a terry clothe towel to rub it away, it should break loose and come of rather ez. Good Luck. and if that doesnt work use the grittiest sand paper you can find lol jk

Sounds like the verdict is to use heat and Goo Gone, before I try Goof Off. I know Goo Gone or Bug/Tar remover doesn't hurt my car and I have a heat gun, so may as well.
Thanks all for your input.

.......pretty certain about this one. Use a hair dryer as has been suggested. Heat it up and it will come off. I have used it to remove the roof wing on my CLK before. If there is any remaining tape, heat it up again and rub it off with your index finger.

Wow, what is up with the heat guns? If your double sided tape is a 3M product then use the product below. Install the cap / applicator and wet the doublesided tape or what ever is left, come back in 5 min and lift the remains of the tape off. Never heard such wack! heat gun, buffer ball, plastic razor, die grinder, alcohol, get the right tool for the job.

............I am not sure who mentioned a heat gun. I don't even know what that is. What many have used is a hair dryer and it works. Of course this not the only solution. The reason a hair dryer is probably a better option is because presumeably one is removing a piece of trim from their car. In that case the double sided tape is under the trim and not accessible to the various liqiuds and gels suggested. Just heat the trim piece with hot air from a redular ladies hair dryer(no guns) and it comes off. very easy.

You input is appreciated, alothough not your pompous attitude. Take a good look at the MSDS o the product you suggested. It is simply another name brand for the exact products we are discussing. Thanks again for your input and actually, you have been quite knowledgable and helpful on other subjects as well. Just please quit with the "I am so awesome, you so dumb" mode.
