I really would love to stay in the game, my 63 is still mine but it still is at the body shop.

I may try and work a deal, lol.

I can't seem to do much better than 1.9-2.0 on my 60' times.

Hey Josh,
I just installed a small .28 dryshot yesterday morning, and drove straight up to the drag strip yesterday with no tuning whatsoever. With my best, but still medicre 1.844 60' time I managed:

11.33 @ 132.778mph

My best 1/8 mile trap was 102.798 mph!

Sure as heck suprised some of those loud obnoxious muscle cars yesterday in my quiet unassuming family car!

Im hoping to at least get down to 7.7 secs on my 60-130mph times.
WOW, you think this would work on my car LOL!!!

Dam Warren, thats as fast as some of my buddies cars.

Hmm maybe you need to go for the AMG flag , hehe

Yes the 335i ECU seems to adapt pretty well. After coming home from the drag strip and checking my computer, no fault codes whatsoever.
This is a very small shot too. I'm really excited about bettering my 7.9 sec 60-130 mph time as records are hard to hold on to nowadays. Look what Drew did with his M3 on street tires!

Ugh.. Another humbling experience for me... My E55 was pretty slow when I ran in June 09 at Texas Motor Plex, pulling a best of only 13.265, but it was a hot night (hi 90's) and we had just driven in some 45 miles and the motor was pretty heat soaked.

Dealer later put new pistons & rings in it because of excessive oil use, but on 12/1 it was totaled when I was rear ended.. so much for seeing what it would do after the rebuild.

So, fas forward to last night at TMP, and 3 runs in my 2008 E63 (no mods) with 20K miles. Bummer! 1st run, 13.011 @ 110.18, run #2 was 12.916 @ 109.94 and run #3 was 12.910 @ 109.86. Not too shabby, at least I got into the 12's, but was hoping for mid-12's. Shortly after I got my E55, my brother in law had to have one. He picked up a used CPO 2006 with 40K on it, now has like 48K and his first time ever down the strip ran a 12.413. I've been down the quarter mile hundreds of times in the last 34 years.. I am cursed I guess. The ambient temp last night was mid-to low 60's.. At least I broke into the 12's... Any thoughts/idea's? 60' was like 2.0 or 2.1 depending on the run-no wheel spin.

Are u dropping the rear air pressure too low ? Are u disabling the traction ???

Are u running on a full tank of gas ??? We go with 3 gallons and fill as needed.

Remove the rear spare tire, raise the car, Launch in Sport mode , do not paddle shift . and try a few runs with regular rear tire pressure just heat them up real well first . If track is good u should hook no problem .

A mad scientist" Juicee63" also told me to do a few hard runs from 0-120 for the car to adapt .

Great questions... and thanks for the reply Malakasnyc. Tire pressue cold was 38 Front, rear 41. Traction control was enabled. I did the ECU reset for run #3. Traction control was on, but never engaged. Launch was in Sport and suspension was in comfort. I did not raise the fron end. I let the tranny shift itself. Gas was less than 1/2, but more than a 1/4. Did have injector cleaner and techron in the fuel. What really irratated me was the brother in laws car was 12.413 on the first run, and he'd never been down the track before in his life, and his car was set up exactly like mine!

Beginners luck.

Power brake at around 2krpm's and roll into the throttle off the line. You should get down to 1.9, that will translate to .4 gained at the other end.

I think the DA was 1,300+ for most of the night.

I did exactly that - I was afraid I would roll the staging lights I was power braking it so much. I'll try to get off the line more aggressively next time. I may try removing the charcoal filters to see if that makes any difference. Would have liked to run today, the fold air would sure help...if less windy.

Like Mike said, you should be cutting 1.9's to mid 1.8's in the 60'...I was cutting 1.91's at DR (yeah 3 1.91's in a row) All I can think of now is a set of DR's so I can actually launch out instead of rolling out...And Tom, turn ESP off...and click down to 1st in Sport mode...Skip the water box and light up the rears real quick to clean them off..

Definitely take the charcoals out...It's not as much power as everyone thinks but it is power...and a lot of it is top end...It would be nice to run in the snowflakes..

Ok, the charcoals are easy... On the ESP off, and click down to first, I can do that as well, but is that just to clean the rubber, then go back to auto, or you suggesting to run manually? I much prefer a stick to the 'flappy paddles'.. IMO, they are cute, but not terribly functional.

Tom,
I don't know if I missed it, but you did you leave your rear tire pressure at 41 psi? Drop that to about 24 psi and it will make a REAL difference in your launch...

No, leave it in S but click down to one. It will shift itself thru. I've just had it short shift first on mine before when it in S mode D...I would never run in M mode, that rev limiter cuts in hard in first if you mistime the shift...

About 3 years ago I tried the key ECU reset and it screwed up my tune. I started a thread a while back about it. So I say if you have a tune DO NOT DO A KEY RESET. Not sure what happenes I think the ECU readapts to stock then has to relearn the tune again..

Plus I think a couple full throttle passes down the track and your adaptation is gonna pick that up...

To add on to citylightva's comment: After I put on my helmet waiting at the line I just think of two buttons that I have to hit, then burnout, then two buttons again.
1. Traction Control OFF
2. Cycle to Manual

B U R N O U T

As you pull forward to the line, it will go back to 1st gear and you can see it say "1"

1. Traction Control ON
2. Cycle to S

Thats it

Also, did you catch the part about the tire pressure?

Since Sacramento, I am trapping 3mph faster now. So it would be 135.7mph at Sacramento now. And last night I just went to a higher map, so who knows, maybe 137mph? But the trans won't hold it anymore, and the car lights up the tires at 60mph on my Hoosiers, its not very easy to control.

Anyways, here is a video my 6.9 second 60-130mph run.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K2cfEpbx4nc

This video shows how difficult it is to control wheel spin at 60mph, and the subsequent gear shifting issues.

Hi Teflonman... Thanks for taking the time to respond. I did see the part about the tire pressure, was thinking 24lbs was a bit low, don't want to spin them on the rims, but will try it. Noticed they were not spinning on launch at 41lbs, so thought the higher pressure would be ok, and actually help overall gearing. My brother in law with the E55 rane the same pressure as I did, and did a 12.413... I would'nt think it would make that big of a difference, but will try it. Also like the idea of manually putting it down into 1st (while in S-mode).

I'll try some runs next time I am at the track (April 9th) with traction control on & off. I'll also have the dealer re-flash the ECU as well. For some reason my 'fly by wire' feels really slow at part throttle from a stop when compared to my old E55. Heck, that may be an issue too. I am told it will show a fault, but not sure about that.. Anyone else experiencing what I'd call a 'dull' throttle?

Thanks again guy's for all the kind words & thoughts...
