Smile Fast Black E55 (fun race)

Well I had my first official race last night in my new to me 2003 E55. It is a low mileage car but I seem to be suffereng from the dreaded Intercooler pump syndrom.

Anyways, here is the deal. I was cruising around looking for a good suspect and no one would want to touch me. Finally a late 60's nova with slicks out back decided to pull next to me from a roll. That was his first mistake. It was not even close. I had him by 6-7 lengths at 70 mph and it was from about 25 mph to start with. Oh well, it felt good to beat him. Stopped and talked to him for a bit. He had a 383 stroker engine with a few different mods. He was completely miffed he got beat by a Mercedes. He was telling me not very many people beat him. I guess he was wrong.

Couple questions, my dealer tells me it is a coolent pump in the supercharger, not a intercooler pump. Is that what is commonly refered around here as an intercooler pump? Also I am not terribly impressed with the HK Logic 7 system. It sounds weak compared to my Mark Levinson in the Lexus. Is there a way to get in the engineering menu to change amplifier gains? I would assume so since it does not even distort when completely cranked (and not very loud at that) I have the Euro Comand and the 3,5,7 trick does not seem to work.Other than a couple minor quibbles, the car is amazing and scary-fast. It will get up to 75 and back down to 0 in less than a block @ almost 5000 feet altitude. That is perfectly insane.

It is the same pump.

Since we have an air-to-water setup, the pump transfers coolant between the intercooler and the front heat exchanger.

Good to know. Anything else I need to see if the dealer will change while I am in there? Do E55s have charcoal filters?

No charcoal on the 55's.

Throw a set of K&Ns in there if you feel like it.

Do you think that the K+N filters will make a difference? I have heard that some Mercedes dealers will do the star lowering for you for free. I also heard about the thermostat mod, Is it worth it? I just wnat to make sure I get as much done as I can since I am 430 miles away from the closest Mercedes dealer.

All I know is that I prefer them to paper filters.

I would definitely do the -10c mod, but have no experience with the Star lowering. I have already bent 3 rims at stock height.

Where do you live? If you live on a country road, you should've bought a p-car or alike that you could enjoy the handling....

I do not live on a country road.. Just because there are not Mercedes dealers around doesn't mean I live out in the middle of nowhere.

Good to know. Did you have any problem getting the dealer to do the -10c mod?

I'll report back after next oil change when I have it done.

j/k. The service advisor says he'll charge me 1/2 unit (hour) for the job.

LOL... no offense, bro!

But 430 (four hundred thirty) miles... that's like from San Fran to Los Angeles.... so every time you need to service your car, you have to put 960 miles on the car? Just hope you don't have a lot of warranty claim...

*EDIT*
Pardon my math it should be 860 miles round trip, not 960...

I hear ya. It sucks, but to own an E55 is worth it. The original factory warrenty expires soon and I bought a good platinum warrenty for 3years/36k. It can then be taken to any car dealer. We have a decent dealer in town that I trust. I just hope it is a rare occurance. I usually need to go to Denver every 6 months anyways. Not a big deal.
