PTE T-Stat Updates (Long)

I had PTE stat in and sure enough it worked GREAT, to great. I noticed my temp being a little below 80 C on the dash. I started monitoring it via the climate control method (precise numbers) When it was even up to 74F outside my engine would not get up to 80C when I was on the highway for 40 minutes. It would only get above 80C at 74F outside temp in stop and go traffic. As soon as I started cruising it would drop below 80C and stay between 76 & 78C. So it always ran in start up rich mode. I think the 16-F stat is perfect for hot weather and when it's hot at night.
I had to put the stock stat back in to get met engine to proper operating temp. I agree I would love to get the stat in a 175F style not the 160F. I have K2 so I never had a CEL.

So you say that your car with PTE 160 Stat is not good for places where climate is not too hot cause the car would saty is rich mode and loose power cuase of it ???

Surprisingly, Yes. The thermostat is great. I also must say I think my car tends to run cooler than most. Conversely, Victors car seems to run hotter than most. I think for my car a 175F thermostat would be ideal. I would like to see the temperature stay at 80C to 85C.

I also have the PTE Tstat, with the -10c Mod, and I have never had a Cel. The car sit more that it's driven and in the winter I have even taken it out for a spin in ( Wisconsin Winter) Cold as Hell, and no Cel at all. Maybe some cars like it and some don't.

Makin' Progress!
We may be making some progress here. I spoke with Patrick just the other day - what a true class act and what a WEALTH of technical knowledge. It sounds like in cold temps, and I'm sorry that I do not know the ecaxt degree - our cars will automatically engage the climate control system at 78* interior temp. If the coolant that flows through the heater core does not reach that temp within a certain number of minutes - and again I do not know the magic number - and this delayed warm up cycle repeats itself a certain number of times (I think 6) the car will throw the CEL for "Thermostat Below Threshold"
SO ... it stands to reason that if you turn you HVAC system completely OFF before you turn your car off such that it stays off when you cycle up on a cold morning and leave the HVAC OFF until the temp gauge reached the appropriate level, maybe that would prevent the CEL??? Just a thought for those of you with the modified stat to see if it helps!
Still talking with Patrick about other options as well - more later.

Pat is reworking my thermostat, no charge. He is a wealth of info and a super guy. Can't wait to try it. I'm hoping this will give me the cooler engine while making it to normal operating temp. Thanks, Pat!
