CLK63 Black Edition Wheel

Obsidian,
Once I bought an MP Design steering wheel from a friend of mine with an '05 E55 (when I had my '03). We swapped the wheels w/o airbags and the steering wheel buttons would not work if we swapped them. We had to take the steering wheels back off and swap the buttons too. For that reason I do think there are differences in the 05+ cars.
Another difference I know from the '03 compared to my '05 is that if I am in C/S mode and press the steering wheel shift buttons, nothing would happen in my '03 - but in my '05 it allows me to shift manually. In my '03 you had to put it in "M" mode by pressing the button next to the shift lever.

Christian (x-tian-230k) had a huge thread on retrofitting steering wheel buttons on his previous '04 E55 and he explained the difference between the two.

Ok, well the wheel is on the way. now after a few emails with Steve @ MbenzNL seems that pre 05' E's might need a steering wheel control module.. dont know what that is.. Has anyone upgraded there 03-04 E55 with a newer 05-07 steering wheel with the newer airbag? So confused
......and also, how much is this control module???

Im gonna try every available option to make it work..Even if i have to buy i new guage cluster, which i would like to try to retrofit the e63 cluster into my car... I will keep everyone updated with any info i get on this project, and if anyone has any info that could help me, i would greatly appreciate it.

Ok, received the wheel yesterday, and it is a legit MB wheel., but doesnt look like its going to work..ALL electronics are different, airbag light came on, and all the function buttons didnt work..Im being told i need soo many different things to get it to work, that its just not worth it..New cluster, control module, etc... It will work in any 07>up E63, CLS63, SL55, as far as im told.. so it looks like i may be going to an MP design wheel and just wait for someone to come through with working paddles...

Can't say I've removed many MB steering wheels but do you think the shafts are all the same across MB models. I'm just wondering if you could use this on an older MB without any steering wheel controls and just hard wire the horn as I'm sure the horn alone can't be more than a few wires. Thats a bad looking wheel, it's too bad you can't use it.

I never got around to it over the weekend, been too busy.. I now see alot of others on the board are also in the process of fitting this into the E55.. Hopefully one of us will get it done..

Yep I remember you, your Blazer sat on airbags, and you were boys with Vinny P. He was in my class. I have to admit I was a bit of a tool in high school, but then again looking back, we all were.
