Road & Track E63 wagon test

Anyone pick up this issues yet. I glanced at the article, but I didn't read it properly.

Their times were 0 - 60 in 4.1; 1/4 mile in 12.6 @ 114 or something like that. From what I read there was no mention of the 6.2L engine lacking in any way. Based on those times it looks like that 63 was running as advertised.

I don't know much about V8 Kompressor wagons, but I remember C & D testing one and getting almost identical times.

.........read it. It was very positive. Very good et and trapspeed. The Kompressor wagon had very impressive times as well when tested by one of the mags a few years ago. Bother wagons were faster than the sedans.

Times sound accurate. The E63 stock ran 2 12.4@114 at SACRAMENTO RACEWAY. My CLS did 12.6 but trapped at 112 , car is too flippin heavy

Your car needs Jenny Craig .... or maybe a light set of wheels and Evo brakes. You will drop about 80 lbs in unsprung weight which is huge.

How much lighter are EVO's brakes?

I cant exactly remember but about 48 lbs for all 4 corners. The fronts are, of course, a bigger drop than the rears. I think the fronts are 16lbs lighter at each corner and the rears are around 8lbs per corner but not 100% sure.

I heard they were on order. I did help a fellow member get a set but that was the last shipment.

Drives Slowly
Here ya go:
Designed as a direct brake disc replacement for the OE E/CLS/S/CL55 AMG brake discs on all four corners (No modifications are necessary. The disc will bolt directly to the car and work with OE AMG brake calipers). Not only will the upgraded multi-piece "floating" discs help mitigate brake fade, but are lighter than stock and reduce unsprung weight by a total of 34lbs. on all four corners! This means better acceleration, braking and cornering. In addition, you get to maintain the AMG calipers without going to a more expensive solution that requires replacing them. Available drilled or slotted or slotted.

P.S. Vic, save your expertise for the basket weaving questions.

Thumbs up

Nice, 114 mph trap for a 63 wagon...looks like the 63's aren't so slow after all!
