Just put in my new 2006.1 Nav DVD and blank??

Thanks to Christian for getting me his 2006.1 nav DVD.

I had a 2005.3 in my '05 E55, and just now replaced it with the 2006.1.

It seemed to install ok, but the map screen is just blank. Even if I zoom out 500 miles I see nothing.

I haven't driven yet, will it fix when I drive? Or is there some other problem or something I'm not doing?

Thanks in advance!

PS. I searched and didn't turn up anything similar to this issue on here.

Scott, if you saw the update screen it should work.

Hmm...

I didn't sit in the car the whole time b/c my daughter needed attention, but I put the DVD in, went in the car and saw the installation screen that has the 2 bars that get filled as it it installing.

Then I came back, and it was up and going, but just no streets. My car is sitting in whiteness. Maybe it's the loading construct of the Matrix?

What is the 'update screen'?

It works now.

I had backed my car out enough of the garage to get the Satellite Radio to work, but forgot the GPS antenna is above the windshield, so it wasn't out far enough for it to work. <--- me smashing me

Anyway, once I exposed the GPS antenna to the sky, it worked like a charm. I checked places that weren't on my previous DVD, and they were all on this one! Woohoo!

Is there any real advantage in going from the 2005.3 to 2006.1? I have 2005.3 and am very disappointed in the NAV system, does 2006.1 help make it a better system, more info, etc?

Yes the volume (data on disk) from 2005.3 to 2006.1 is almost double.
Will that make the system better, don't think so, but it has more street and POI information.

Scott glad your new disk worked out, I am sure someone here with 2004.1 would love to have your 2005.3, BTW happy fathers day.

Thanks!

I actually have a 2005.3 and a 2005.1. For some reason, when I went to put my 2005.3 disk back in its case, there was a 2005.1 in that case already. LOL
So, I have two 2005 DVD's one .1 and one .3.
I don't think there's much difference between .1 and .3 at all. I experimented with them to see out of total curiousity.

Anyway, I'm happy w/ 2006.1. There is quite a difference in amount of streets from new neighborhoods and POI info.

As said above, the actual system operates the same.

If you want kick-*** navigation systems, get an Acura followed closely by Infiniti and then Lexus.
BMW and Merc lag way behind the Japanese lines in terms of Navigation and other electronic toys, but most of us are about the fun-factor in driving, and none of them touch us in that area. I've had in the last 2 years:
Infiniti M35 (wife still drives), E60 M5, Lexus GS, and Acura RL & TL. I've seen all the nav's and Merc is tied w/ BMW for last place. hehe
