Street cars really dont need that much if they are running "sticky" tires, I think if we spray to the 330' mark it will be more then adequate plus it wont be that cold yet, but I'm willing to cover the whole 660' if needed.

Thanks all. I am so excited about this event I can't wait. Who knows how bad I'll be in the Z but I'll at least beat on it a little. Ahmad, I'm talking to my neighbor (he bought my 55) about going to Mason Dixon on Friday night. It's a lot closer than MIR and it's a pretty good track. Give me a shout on my cell if interested.

I've been on race tracks before but have never done drag racing before. This should be good fun.

Where are people staying? If we're starting Monday morning I'd go down Sunday. Can someone LMK of a nice hotel/motel that is not far from the track?

Track rentals are the best time to learn how to drag race. There will be plenty of people that will be able to teach you the basics and give you pointers. Plus you get to practice ALOT!

The track is pretty much in the middle of nowhere. I dont think there are any "nice" hotels in that area. My advice is to stay somewhere around DC, there's plenty of nice places in and around DC. Unfortunately I dont have any experience with hotel quality in DC since I live so close. I know there is a Ritz Carlton, four seasons, etc etc if you want a really upscale hotel and theres tons of others. We will definitely have the track from 9am-5pm. The track may not be fully prepped at 9am. I'm saying this from experience, its usually prepped by 9:30/10 but I will show up early and make sure track is ready by 9

There are alot of you guys coming down from ny/nj area. Do you guys want to arrange to all stay at the same place and caravan down? Maybe we can get a goup discount if everyone stays at the same place. I'm sure it would make for a nice drive down too!

How much over the limit can they lock you up? Not that I want to push my luck but I'm curious. I got a speeding ticket down there in the 90's for 81 in a 65 and it wasn't a big deal but he did say that 84 would be considered reckless!

Alot has changed since the 90's. Anything over 80mph is considered reckless, regardless of the posted speed limit. Anything 20mph over the posted speed limit is also reckless. In VA reckless driving is a SERIOUS offense and is a misdemeanor that stays on your record for 11 years A lawyer is a must when you get a reckless because in the commonwealth of virginia only the lawyer can talk to the prosecutor before the trial in order to come to some kind of an agreement. Jail time is a very real possibility and license suspension is too (if you are not licensed in va they can only suspend your driving privelages IN va ) Its even worse for VA residents because they get tagged with a "civil fine" which is upwards of $1000 in addition to whatever the ticket fine and court fees are! Oh yea, and you HAVE to appear for trial. Just do what I do and stay out of virginia! Fairfax county is the worst!

For those of you going to Maryland on sunday and are looking for a place to stay, we are working on getting a group rate at a couple of hotels in the area. We need to reserve at least 10 rooms to get a group rate. We will probably stay at a hotel near D.C. and drive down to MIR on Monday morning.

How far out to you guys want VHT sprayed? Jason is making a really nice offer on behalf of Gems by JWade to cover the costs I think the 330' would be PLENTY. I dont lose traction past the 60' anyway

Noy having ever drag raced (I've done a few track days), I'm not sure but I have to guess that most benzes will be hooked up by 60' but if it will help anyone I'm all for more VHT. BTW, it won't get on the cars finish when drag racing, will it? Thx.

as long as you dont run drag radials or slicks you probably wont sling it up onto your quarter panels, by the end of the day I seem to have that **** all in my wheels wells and some on my trunk.

 

Does it wash off easily? Thx.

 

you won't have to worry about vht on the track...it's the burnouts near the waterbox that throws rubber all over your rear wheel wells, quarter panels, mufflers, and tailpipes.

with a little work it washes off without much problem.
